The Secret World is an MMORPG created by Funcom (Anarchy Online, Age of Conan: Unchained), with Senior Producer and Creative Director Ragnar Tørnquist (The Longest Journey, Dreamfall). It blends elements of mythological and modern day civilizations, along with a mix of dark fantasy and the supernatural, and has no character classes. In The Secret World, where urban legends, myths, and conspiracy theories are all true, the only question is: what do you do now?
Earlier today, Secret Worlds Legends Reddit blew up with NDA-violating leaks about the ongoing closed beta test. The information revealed screenshots, how combat has changed and information about lore portions of the story. However, Funcom feels that the information is not a fair or accurate portrayal of SWL due to the nature of closed beta testing. A leak "leads to misunderstandings and misconceptions that are doing nothing but a disservice to the game, the team working on it & future players."
With today's huge announcement of Secret World Legends, a rebranding and reimagined game, fans are clamoring for more information. We had the chance to send along a few questions to Game Director Roman Amiel that will provide a few of them. It's a great and informative interview so get crackin'!
Funcom is finally ready to reveal the details about the recently-announced overhaul of The Secret World. When the game relaunches later this spring, it will do so with a new name: Secret World Legends. Funcom considers SWL a "shared world RPG" that sports over a hundred hours of stories and quests. Lastly, Secret World Legends will be adopting a free to play monetization strategy.
The Secret World has entered "Golden Week" where players can hunt down Samsu Nasiru, the Guardian of Gaia to get hold of cool rewards and tokens that can be exhanged for items including pets, Lucky Coins and more. In addition, golden outfits, the golden unicorn and the Gilded Geist Rider are all available in the shop for the entire event that runs from now through March 8th.
In today's investor's meeting, Funcom revealed that it will be "relaunching" The Secret World in 2017. The move is being made to "broaden the appeal of the game" and will be accomplished through redesigning the new player experience and by making combat improvements as well as tweaking other game play features. In addition, the veteran program, including its rewards and retention systems, will be overhauled. Relaunch is expected to begin in March.
