In the latest Sea of Thieves "Inn-Side Story", a series of video developer diaries from Rare, Senior Designers Shelly and Andrew Preston take part to talk more about how cooperative game play will work when the game launches later this year.
The pair start off with the statement that "every single mechanic has been built to be social".
An example is the map system:
An interesting feature is that when one is steering the ship, another player will need to go into the ship itself to the map room to help determine the course to navigate. One person can't do it all. Players have to work together to navigate -- navigator, captain, player in the crow's nest or even the player hanging over the rail feeling seasick.
One person can carry the map and see it though will need to show it to others so they know what is going on and where to go.
