Latest Blog Entry - SR2: Where is White Wolf when you want Vampires?
From my blog Ramblings From An Addict [telebreth]

So I was talking in Ventrilo just before a raid in WoW with a friend. Wouldn't it be nice if White Wolf released Vampires: The Masquerade as an MMO? I think so. I also think that this is a perfect time to flesh out some of the things I was speaking on referring to no experience gains but changing to something different for "Leveling" as we know of it today.

If any of you know, remember or understand from playing how siring works in the Vampires realm consider the following.

When you start playing you can start as any of the current Kindred Clans and if you wish as a Human. Instead of leveling you find yourself in a Clan from the start of the game. Nothing like a Guild system. BUT there would be like Clan Halls and things like that. It would be your quote n quote starting areas. These areas like Capital Cities in most games would introduce you to the Hierarchy of your Clan, have missions and or quests and instead of receiving experience points that simply move "up" everything would flow around the concept of say....faction. Some things you do make your clan happy...other things make them mad. Betraying your clan and choosing something different would always be an option. Feeding off the elders would carry the same consequences as within the world and theoretically would be HOW people could start playing and immediately bypass the leveling system and become extremely powerful from the start. However, feeding off the elders carried many horrific consequences that would all be played out in game.

Faction would be the driving force behind opening all abilities and skills. Based on your actions things would be open but they could be closed to you as well. If you are discovered betraying your clan you could be penalized faction and loose abilities and have to find other ways to receive those abilities again. Gain the favor of your Clan or even allow yourself to be sired by another Clan and then take upon yourself their racial traits and abilities. Get tired of being Mirovigian and gameplay seemed dull....go get sired by someone else. Tired of being human allow yourself to embrace the life of the Kindred.

NO one would ever have the same abilities exactly unless they followed the exact same paths...however because you can choose when and who to betray, when to increase and decrease your faction and therefore open or close abilities nothing is locked or set in stone. Allowing for wider arrays of races from the start instead of classes but functioning along the same lines as classes gives the feel that classes are indeed still there. Things could still be mathmatically tracked by asshats and the entire world would be at ease. Especially me....someone who is dying for a twist to things we have been doing forever...not to mention I am dying for a Kindred MMO.

    • War = WoW.
    • But see that is what brings people back and is so appealing, in the end people dont want to be told WHY they are killing said boss.....all they want to do is KILL him, gain bragging rights because they have become validated in the fantasy world they love and they got Professor Plums. We get to write our own story. Raid Content is MORE appealing without a 50 quest chain that is damn near impossible when the content first comes out to complete. WoW already has something close to 100,000 quests including the dailies you will never run out of something new to see. Leave the quests for the grind from level to level and give raid content in uber doses....oh wait WoW does that......maybe we should all go level in AoC and kill each other for the next 7 months.

      WAR (Warhammer Online)
    • War = WoW.
    •
OK Time for someone with a fresh perspective.

Mr Guild Wars, WoW doesnt need to come up with orginial ideas, they took care of that part a LONG TIME AGO.

What did they do right? They made a game that was addictive. Doesnt matter how, Doesnt matter why, everyone knows even when you beat the MAN down with a stick you are hiding in your mother's basement and are a closet junky of the very thing you despise. Very FEW people that bash WoW here or anywhere else can prove they have been inactive for more than a month. To those who can KUDOS, go measure your private parts somewhere else.

Wanna know what keeps people coming back to WoW, keeps them playing WoW and increases the subscription numbers? Player Vs. Environment Content. Period. You see, PvP is a necessary evil. However, there is ONLY ONE satisfying way to stay immersed in a story....PROGRESSION. Not like raid progression but allowing your game to unfold and make you feel like you are telling the story. If you dont think people will come back JUST TO SLAY Arthas...you are sadly mistaken.

Its great that people want to take an idea and create a world around it, but so far most companies have proven that while someone else had a great story, all they know how to do is make it come to an end. Take for instance AoC, oooooo SUCH storyline. I mean if the original author was alive....he would be SO proud of the story they developed....ohhh wait....Its ONLY open ended....so who gets to finish it? When is the climax....if the only climax is when some douchebag learns an exploit and ganks my ass outside of the city.....then Funcom can sit and spin. To be honest, all the other companies that create games like that can too. I will buy your product and use your one month free and then I will make damn sure that if I ever run out of toilet paper the box will be near by.

When ANY game is controlling 62% of an entire GENRE, its time everyone else went to school. Believe me there is a reason 10 million people play WoW even if most of them are from overseas.

Finally, I would like to say that until you know that "All us fanboi's have only played WoW...." keep your F'ed up comments to yourself, 5 years ago I began Beta Testing games, with the inception of Auto Assault by NC Soft and LOTRO I was in Alpha phased testing and being invited to bring my entire gaming guild with me. Im not bragging just letting you know, I play them all, at any one time I am paying for 5 MMOS and testing about 10. Not to mention my main investment being 40 hours a week in WoW while holding a job as a manager in an Electronic Retail Store.

It is still in my personal opinion that WoW is the best overall MMO experience for someone specifically interested in the RPG genre. Have a good day, feel free to flame me while I light up a smoke and smile.

      WAR (Warhammer Online)
    • Best quests
    • The previous comment is NOT entirely true. WoW had this implemented a while back through a MOD. As long as people had "PlayerQuest" you could make your own quests and anyone with the MOD could see your quest.

Unfortunately, Blizz decided that this MOD violated their bounds and shut it down. Never once did it interfere with the Leveling System. Not to mention it was a great way to have people rank in the guild. Find an officer and click the quest. Complete the quest and your reward was a promotion to certain rank. The guild loved it till the MOD went bye-bye.

    • Looking for a good P2P MMORPG
    • Have you ever tried Lineage II

Nice thing about Lineage II other than gameplay mechanics if u have an MSN Account you can log in to MSN while you play and keep in contact with everyone while inside the game through the User Interface.

Have you ever played DDO (Dungeons and Dragons Online)?

Another good one, I love the fact that Gary one of the creators of D&D used his voice before his passing as the DM for most of the instances in the game.

      Have you ever seen LOTRO?

Lord of the Rings Online is also a game by Turbine and it is pretty good as well.

While these titles may or may not tickle your fancy bone there is always Tabula Rasa and Vanguard: Saga of Heroes. You could even attempt ArchLord, Ryzom, EQ1, EQ2, Star Wars Galaxies or FFXI however some of these titles have been through hell and never come back. For instance SWG and FFXI. I hope some of these titles help.

What are your views on PvP?

I don't like PvP combat.
I think it is the best part about MMORPG's.
I don't care either way.
