I think you forget one of the biggest changes was that it went to the 360' platform and brought in more console players that had never played Final Fantasy at all. Many of those who I know playing on the 360 do not even know what we are talking about when we speak about the rest of the series and how the jobs, chocobos or just anything worked. This on thing change face of the people who play the game and have been the catalyst for many of the on going changes. It basically moved FFXI out of the closed world of Playstation into the main stream without really 1 line of code at first.
Answer is yes, this is not the Final Fantasy that you 'dad' played but a thriving, more up to date and content rich MMO then most out there now.
Now that is a intelligent reply to my concerns. Your right there could be increase in other areas of the guild market. I will be very interesting to see what this does to the game. But as for it being the greatest thing to come down the pike in ages I am sorry but not in the least. There is a lot of things it will not do good for the game.
Wow I never seen so many post about something talking about me really so inaccurately. For your information guys, I am respected member of the FFXI community and run RGoNots on 3 servers now with about 250 members. The group on Sylph holds the #1 spot atm on the linshell community run by POL. I run one of the FFXI website Final Fantasy Radio for the linkshells that is listen to across at last count 20 servers. I am not coming from not small minority voice but form my opinion from talking to more gamers in a day then most players in a month throughout FFXI. So cut me some slack guys not like I do not know what the changes are.
As to my personal "opinion" it is held by numerous high level crafting people on the Sylph and in my ls with 20 level 100 guilders. It is not general opinion help by the regular players in the least. After 5 years of playing I am with most craftsman on FFXI that our part of the game is being slowly but surely phased out by SE. This is the concern I raised and if you look at the lower level items you make to skill up at that start you will see it is the equipment that the higher levels wont need to buy anymore. It will destroy the market for the 5k or 10k disposable equipment purchases to do a BCNM's, etc. and "will" cause some economic impact on the Auctions House sales. Take a look at all the stuff people are "now" selling off you want some facts.
And on another note... Sure this will be good for the current players of the game but in all honestly when the White Mage in your level 10 party in the dunes wearing full Zenith what do you honestly think that new guy with no sub job is going to feel ? When he ask how you get that and the answer is a year of Sky and a few HNM's ...
skill up's for getting lvl's in guild... really...
Well here goes and I hate to add my opinion cause it is negative on this new thing. We have been "discussing" this for few days now in the linkshell and some really heated things keep coming up. I for one think they will finally destroy the rest of the economy for the guild people on FFXI with this one change. Not as many at all will need the items we make for low level jobs and so there will be no way to skill up to get to the higher levels. Plus all the equipment that I have in storage now for each 10 levels will become worthless "if" all changes the people seem to read into this one announcement come true.
I have had the sprout beret for 2 years now from getting someone a world pass that changes my level to there's. It was a novelty and useless. Now with the changing of the level on the cloths it might be better for some. But just think about the confusion thats going to fallow. I am sorry but a level 75 relic geared character does not belong in the dunes with 3 others who have no sub job doing a party at level 15.
RPG out the window and now we have lost all story line plus the feeling of the zones. There was a story and reason you wore those cloths. This is what made it some what different then other games who have done this successfully. You cant get some of our equipment until end game and now they would be using them to party with new gamers... think about it.
