For some reason the developers are missing the point...
The reason the DDO failed was that the whole game was a bunch of instances..
None wants that..the majority of ppl and especially the D&D fans were expecting a full exploring world with random encounters were you wouldn't excpecting, and not only intanced places...
Yes dungeon crawling is great we want that its just there was nothing more than it...
It's just so dissapointing that in order to save money the devs deside to make all places instanced in order to avoid making betetr servers and give more money for that ...save alot of work also and they prefer the easy way ... That sucks :/
What can we do? Turn the back now on to those products until the devs realise that they have to bust their ashes down , give more money in order to their product dont lack quality and then they can be sure that they ll take their mone back from the sales...A good product will comprahate them..
Another thing ... You need the pvp aspect of this game in order to succed nowdays...SO NEXT TIME ,IN DDO 2 or in future products devs keep that in mind...
Concerning ddo they could do the same thing that aoc did...Guild vs guild castle creations from each guild e.t.c. and dont say some that d&d traditionally was coop team based game without pvp...this is pc games mmo games,w/o pvp aspect mmo games will die,and perhaps some of the d&d fans did bad to the game spamming in forums we dont want pvp in this game...
Pve aspect is needed...but pvp is needed also
About the combat system u mention lotro and vaungaurd use both the usual auto- attack system with vaungard being little bit less than wow-copy in combat system.Lotro seems to have some interctivity wow-like with other players concerning group but its pve-only game ..the monster pvp mode is ridicullus aanwy...
Vanguard is huge and due to lack of big ammount of online playedrs it seems a lonely ranger like game..
It has though niced gathering system the way you chop trees down is amazing, but i cant tell if any players would come back to it now..
I my self would like to go back to ddo to check if there is now any free roaming world adventuring or it is as it was instance spam world, which kills the game, and adventruing..
If u value though interactive and skill based combat more than gear wow-like depednded combat i would recommend AOC.. I never met any serious bug till 36 lvl, despice the fact ppl as i read mass complain about bugs.. where i stopped it..and till that lvl i found the game exciting..
The problem with aoc lies in the lack of quests and content after 40 lvl ,which means u have to farm monsters for the rest 40 lvls which is very tiring and thus i stopped it for that reason..AS much as anyone would like a nice and challenging combat system, farming gazillions of monsters cn be tiring, especially if u have to fight well in almost every combat in order to survive..With the various patches i hope in 2-4 months aoc will be fully playble

WoW is by no means the best MMORPG out there. Just has the most subs.
But really it doesn't make sense, it's got 10 mill subs, millions more than any other game, and it's ranked at some 20th or so?
there are asian MMOs that make wow look like it has no subs. why aren't they listed?
no one likes games that force you to raid for hours on end, in order to MAYBE get one item... then to do that same dungeon, in the same exact way, another 40-100 times... then rinse/repeat for the next dungeon.
that is the most incredibly boring garbage to ever hit the MMO world.
im not a wow fan boy either but fact is wow is sadly still most completed mmo so far thnks to funcom sigh* Incredibly boring game it may be for a guy that plays it for 2-3 years so you are wrong Damian 7
Noone forces you to farm raiding in wow..in fact you can only play pvp if you like + some heroics and u can get that way lots of good loot especially pvp gear ,..
We were discusing with some friends the other day about the current mmo's existing so far and what the perfect mmorpg should look like here are some details:
1.Heavy character customization . Every time u lvl u should be able to contribute your points whereever u like STR , END,DEXT,AGIL e.t.c. so at end stage apart gear your stats could be diferent from other players..also some stats like inteligence wisdom e.t.c. should give somesome bonuses to cewrtain skills so if you are a warrior you should think carefully where to put your points and not like most games in strenght and endurance only.
2. Weapons . I barely remember a game mmo rpg or not that a polearm has 4 metres reach , a 2handed sword 2 metres reach a longsword 1 meter reach e.t.c. i must go back to baldur's gate, temple elemental evil and only 1 mmo rpg so far has this thingie and i forget its name...battles would be far more tactical and the type of weapon u use could do the diference and not just the dps on it
3.Races and classes . There should be a lot of races with more than just 1-2 unique racial abilities so every warrior or mage or should be really diferent from race to race. Concerning classes there should be hundrends of diferent skills+ talents so from warrior to warrior u could see a truly diferent spec if the players desires so. Some would say that this would make a game unbalanced but thats not true.. When u have hundrends of choises to make its up to every player and class to choose a smart specc with feats and talents for his class and the game itself should award the player for his good and smart choises. A game can be unbalanced when u have few choises about your build and there is not much things u can change..There are 2 ways to make a game balanced.. 1 is WOW' s way very few talent choises just 3 trees calculated carefully and gear also calculated . The other way is to truly free the game and give loads of choises to pick skills feats and talents to the players so NONE can complain for balance.
4.Gear-Loot-Instances .Full randomized loot for each instance and each outdoors mobs u kill. One of the best looting system was the one of Diablo's with truly hundrends of thousands unique random pool generated items..so you wont say i miss the hands from my tier 4 set lets go to that place to get it..Its so much bpring to know what it drops and where, and much more fun to grind mobs where there is a small chance that u can get a really usufull item .
5.Combat system : After being bombed from the usual boring from vets players automated attack system we were happy to see a manual combat evolving system like the one AOC uses... But sadly they kinda screwed up by making the manual blocking system tottally useless in pvp ,and FUNCOM: Spamming combos and keyboard mindlessly SHOULD NOT win battles!! At least they tried though to make something diferennt , only the whole combat system needs revamp sadly .My opinion they should just had to copy/paste oblivion or severance blade of darkness combat system which is by far the best combat system ever and even easy to use without needing to spam keys like crazy but focus on tactical battles HEAR ME FUNCOM?
6.Frindly interface/Intercation wth other players: just copy /paste WOW'S chat party/guild general system, channel's sustem ,party tool e.t.c. its working great dont think it can be better and easier to use...
CONCLUSION: Some of these aspects are used already in some of the best existing mmo's in market but most of them are not..Question is if there is a technological problem/issue . I mean all those thigns would perhaps make a game too heavy ? or no? My guess is companies are making money without working too much and since they know that even without too much work ppl will buy their products anyway so why they should bust their ash down and work?
I remember older games werer loads of fun to get busy with ,games like baldur's gate and many others..that was an age that companies were finding ideas, were working with gameplay , they wer elistening to ppl they knew what ppl like and didnt made just a game with good graficks.
FOCUS ON GAMEPLAY DEVS!!!!
In mmorpg market there are 2 ways to make a game succesfull..
Find a well thought formula like WOW did where everything is balanced but yes.. it was fun for some reason to play for 3 years.
The 2nd way i describe it above...
Future? I place my hopes for darkfall ,it has many characteristics that could make a good package of fun to get busy with, but from what i hear they face economical/financial problems and work so far isnt that good as they wanted to be...
2 probs so far i ve noticed concerning aoc :
1. Lack of instances+ combat system... im 36 lvl barbarian but havent done any instance so fa i heard the 1st is around 38 lvl or so...and i mean the casual 5+ ppl party intances...35 lvls grind, grind grind ,quests quests running ,grind, grind quests e.t.c. which made me got tired from the nice and sympathetic -in general -try of the devs to make battle more manual . The very simple and nice thing i remember from wow is that even fdrom low lvls 14+ there was some very nice instances which above the nice feeling of adventuring encourages partying with other ppl ,which u ould make friends, enemies and adding to interactivity of the game with other ppl
I could explain why a oblivion manual combat system like could work far better ,left mouse button attack +directional keys for combos et.c. ,charging bar for strength for each blow with the sword blah blah...right mouse button for really active blocking where u can hold your sheild up and move and unleash attacks when u want , and NOT LIKE AOC crapping block system they made which is useless to use in pvp, would be less tiring for the player and more manual than the combat system is now... if u want proof just play oblivion to check the combat system...
2. Great lack /failure of interactivity with other players when u meet them outdoors or in the cities...
Theyonly thing they should copy /paste from wow was interactive and party/guild/genral/defence channels system Wow used...Very simple to use only 1 window ,always in memory the channel u want ,very simple nice and practical...
I barely remember a guy that answered to me when i said hi! or hails in say mode even in RP realms...
some would say the fault is from the side of ppl you asked or tried to talk or tell em in rp-fashion way to party with them ,but even for me it was tiring to change windows set new window for party chat e.t.c.
My opinion the interactivity system aoc uses along wth the channel/windows type AOC uses so far kills the ability to omunicate with ppl ...
P.S. I was playing wow from the release 3 years ago almost ,i got tired of it and was waiting a lot for AOC exactly because i love the aoc universe and manual combat style games ,sadly and for some strange reasons, some of them i mentioned uhm i dont have much mood to spam the keyboard to kill mobs and grind grind grind :/,got tired maybe fromt teh spaming keys... i ll try to lvl up as much i can but im guessing to endure till lvl 50 hope not to..
Would you rather see a game release pushed back a year or have the game release witha few bugs that will be fixed?
