OP Dont get drawn into thinking that solo players want to be on thier own :) I love solo play or like many have said the option of solo play. But at the same time i love being able to compete/pit/judge and compare myself online to others. i also love the community i get in mmorgs. As a father i dont really get the chance to plan raids etc anymore but i love mmorgs so much i dont want to just go away and play solo games because occasionaly i get the chance to put time into a game where i can group/raid etc, just not so often...hence the reason i have gone back to good old EQ! when i can i get into a group or a raid, if i dont have time i go and work on my epic or just solo some AA exp.
Solo play has nothing to do with being alone friend it's more to do with being able to play when no one else wants to :) imagine turning your mmorg on to find that at that time no one else wants to pla, but you have just booked a week of work just to play your group heavy game. you find you can't progress at all without a group! next week you go back to work and find that your friends all call you up to let you know they have a week of work and wandered if you would like to go on a hardcore raid week with them....frustrating?
In eq i can do both. and thats just the way i like it. but on the other hand i played VG and found that the game was so easy there was just no point in grouping for me, but no achievments either :(
If EQ goes the way of the last few expansions where they have added a lot of group/solo content as well as raids then i think ill be sitting here for a while longer.
I think what he meant was that in most games these days you start of being a hero. I played Vanguard to 47 then left because i could solo so easily. same as wow lotro and various others. dont get me wrong i love to solo, but prefer a game like EQ where i had to build myself up gear and skill wise before i could stand toe to toe with many mobs!
This made me feel as though i was an expert at my class. WOW i was the same as any other char with the same equip. VG again i just felt as though every player was always going to be as good as i was. In EQ i made a name for myself as being a well played Ranger. I could handle mobs that groups had trouble with.
Please someone come up with a game where we need to earn the right to be a hero again. Whats a world without heros? boring.
Whats a world where everyone is a hero? boring.
Come to FV friend! we seem to have a decent community on this server with a nice level range. i only struggled to find a group between 10 and 20 and those flew by doing quests in blightfire moors. Since then i have reached 51 and having a blast ripping through nadox with a group each night. I'm sure we could make room for you friend :).
Were even starting the planes from scratch this month...starting from the very beggining which should be fun :).
Just thought i would update you all on how i am doing now in EQ.
I am still here and already i am hooked as bad as ever! advice for any old vets coming back...start fresh! there is so much new content in the game i have just reached 51 and have barely touched any old content. I have joined a great guild on FV...Wayfarers Elites....great friendly guild with a whole range of levels. Great leader ( Tsolaes ) and a great core of players. I am a million miles behind as far as cash goes but it's not really making much difference as the new content has a lot of great quests. at level 20 i quested a 1 hand weapon that had the same DPS output as my old epic earthcaller.
Levelling seems to have taken a huge boost with the new regen upgrade. new content is not too far from new games either which is nice. Lots more questing to do too. Not sure if thats a good thing or not though. questing seems to be something i used to love but now think can ruin a game if saturated..ie VG, wow and such.
Alli all i'm having a blast and wonder why i ever left. the grass is not greener!
I came back 3 weeks ago and have been playing on the FV server. The server has too healthy of a population to be closing soon id say. i also played my old char on AB for an hour to see what it was like and that server had a really good pop. compared to most games on the market EQ has a great pop and i really can't see it closing anytime soon.
I really hope the rumour you heard is not true as EQ is still easily the best game out there for me :) i would love another game to come out with a huge world, long battles that you can use tactics again instead of 5 second fights where its just a case of button smash. Dungeons that make you want to explore, Rare mobs that are actually rare. And yes i love camping and a good old fashioned grind! i want it all back!
Which IP would you like to see become Bioware's new MMO?
