given there appears to be a huge percentage of people leaving conan in the first month i doubt it ll have much effect on any mmo from june onwards .
the good thing about age of conan is as a co operative roll playing experiance its pretty good .i ve enjoyed playing it thus far but i m starting to see its faults as an mmo
the problem is that the game does nt feel immersive . this is really down to the liberal use of instancing . you essentially feel like your playing a game rather than taking part in a virtual world . which for an mmo is a big problem ,
i cant speak for everyone but i think the majority of mmo players want a free roaming world with some instancing .
the other way it fails as an mmo is that its not what most people would call acceptably playable on anything much less than a pc that close to the recomended specs . these really should be the required specs in my view. dont let the flamers fool you saying how well it runs on thier 8800 gts 2 ghz ram pentiuim dc 3 ghz pc .
it ll play but you will find it a frustrating experiance espeacially in the citys . ( whats the bets now someone tell me to turn off bloom , get the latest patch . turn off programs in the background , check for spyware , reduce the view distance , defragg twice a week etc etc ) . truth is these comments come form people who are just repeating parrot fashion what they see in other posts and dont actually know a lot more about computers than you do .
conan does not play well on a mid range system .
fortunatly for me i have higher spec gaming rig which it does play on :) its been fun but i dont think its for me . i like mmos not games that describe themselves as an mmo but have such limits in them as conan does .
worth a play but not a stay
its hard to say how well it will run . some people with similar computers specs report it running well and other suggest that its hardly playable . unfortunatly no two pcs are alike . aoc stands out in that unless you are close to the reccomended specs that your really taking a chance as to weather it will run well on your pc .
my advice to you (unless you have money to burn) is wait for a free trial or see if you can get a buddy key off of someone . see how well it runs on your rig and dont listen to any advice you get from people you dont know .
some dont know what they are talking about others are just wanting the game to do well so badly they ll lie about the performance or maybe they have a vastly different opinion on what smooth gameplay is .
personally i ve seen conan played on 8800 cards on several pcs . its ok but certainly not what i would call good even on the lower settings even with pentium dual core 2-5 ghz with 2-4 ghz ram .
i ve had a look through some of the early reviews online , it makes some interesting reading . most are pretty favourable i must say but nearly all of them say to be certain that you pc its close to the recomended specs ( not the required specs ) if you dont want a frustrating time of it . some go so far as to say this is a fatal flaw in the games design .

if funcom has overestimated the power of the average home system .i wonder how many of those 400 thousand player will be there in a months time . i m already hearing rumours that possibly as many as a half of them could cancel thier subs .
my recomendation to anyone who does nt have a system thats somewhere near the recomended specs is to wait for a free trial , see how it runs on your pc first .
if aoc runs on the average system like some posts say then funcom really should put one out asap . put peoples minds to rest . ( even if its a three day trial )
theres a lot of potential customers out there holding off buying because they dont want to waste thier money .
and the graphics are like mc cains wife . at a distance they could fool you that its hot . but when you get up close you can see its mutton dressed as lamb :P
