Another board from UO players for UO players is http://www.uoforums.com/
One point of immersion you did not touch is game play.
Game immersion is easier when the game is not so predictable, when unexpected things can happen and keep you on your toes. The thing I hope more for than graphics and sound is a better computer AI and systems.
Nah, on average people have about 2 accounts (from startics polls), so should leave UO with about 25.000 western players.
But does not help that about 50.000 accounts don't really speak english and really reduce the amount of players you can communicate. (except if you japanese is any good)

EA/UO could continue but its highly doubtful as bigger paying projects will require the resources. Its not a of question of profits alone but of an expectation of better profits.
The game play though is aweful. The sandbox MMO style for UO no longer works since 50% of the players are just bots farming and stocking vendors.
The 100.000 figure comes from a Mark Jacobs interview a few weeks back.
But yes, I guess at the moment they just let UO slide without any investments until after WAR and then I guess they may reevaluate UO again.
Actually rumour is, that there is another dupe method in uo again. Is maybe why character transfer is down for the last 2 weeks., though I still wonder how selling gold can be profitable when 1 Million is sometimes as low as $0.5.
EA's problem is that they tackle things half heartedly (or sometimes with no thought at all). That there are duping methods which take months to half a year to stop is just no way to do business.
On a sideneote - EA changed wood/ore resources so that they are random now after you chop/mine - all of that because they may plan to change crafting in the future .....
They change on maybes and I still think that is one of the stupidest changes ever ... just to make the highend resources 'rare', pushing the game further to an itemgame.
