Why dont you be honest with yourself Exavus. The reason you are unsure about what game to play is simply because you dont particularly want to play any of them. Lets face it none of the mmos currently available are particularly good games. The only way you can enjoy them is to distract yourself from the low quality of the game itself by chatting to other players.
Unless you enjoy killing 20 rats so you can find a page in a book.......or maybe helping Wizzle Fizzlepop bake a cake by killing 10 badgers takes your fancy.......or how about killing 10 mouldy skeletons so Jeremey Blimplop can make a nice necklace out of their teeth. Oh what fun.
Then again you could just go and watch kids morning television programmes. Afterall its where SOE got their inspiration from ![]()
Yeah its funny actually. I recently moved into a new house with a friend. Now when he goes to sleep he asks me to play EVE and keep the music turned up so he can hear it in his room as he drifts off. Awwwww how sweet ![]()
I didnt have any problems with those missions when I started playing. They seemed really straightforward to me. Go to location, destroy a few opponents, pick up mission objective which is easy to locate in the list in the top right hand corner, go home......mission complete. Next.

Few things;
- EVE is a PVP game in more than one aspect, I f you don't like the concept of competing with others then you'll find your options severely limited. Thing is, if you didn't PVP because you lacked experience and were "afraid" of that, this can be cured :)
- PVE in EVE is boring, although a lot of things have changed (right now there's a content update with dozens of new missions). Also CCP is moving away from the PKing gank niche towards more mainstream happyhappy PVE 'fun'. Some like it, some don't (I don't).
- the main aspect of EVE is interaction with others, be it shooting them, competing on the market, working with others for OP's small and big. Working within an alliance and all that. This is the real aspect of EVE tbh, also interaction can be forced upon you which is what it's all about. There's a lot of 'jobs' within an alliance, some are PVP minded, logistics, management, there's tons of options.
So, if you like to play solo, don't like PVP and find missions boring then there's not much for you to do. If you like teamwork and/or PVPing then there's a place for you in EVE.
On starting over; that's a personal thing, your old char (while being diverse) will probably have a lot of support skills trained that can be used at all times. It'll take you a loing time to get that back up. If you attributes are ok you'll be better off using your old char.
If you just don't feel like using the old char, possibly because he's old while you really aren't, don't like the race (looks can be changed), his background and employment history, his attributes are fail and he's specced in compeltely different way then you could start over. I did a couple of times.
EVEN if you state you don't like PVP, IF you're willing to try again I'd urge you to try an experiment; Start a minmitar char completely optimized for PVP, train up Rifter, Rupture and Hurricane (armor tanking turret users, no shields or missiles). COMPLETELY focus on dps, tank, cap/survivability and ECM drones. Then go do high sec piracy, learn, put in effort, train yourself, THINK about what you're doing and game mechanics. It's a blast. You can be succesful in a frigate in a 1-4 weeks, being good in a cruiser takes about 2 months with BC a few weeks later. So in total it would be a 3 month experiment.
If you got bored the last time, it's no use doing the exact same thing again since you already know what's going to happen, you'll get bored. Live a little and mess up some others, it's a game :)
Thanks for taking the time and providing some actual insight on this. Ultimately I think I'll hold off for now. I'll probably pick it back up again when the next major feature release (station ambulation, etc..) comes out. The game does continue to evolve and I might find my original Amarr character viable again as the game progresses. For now, I'll just keep a watchful eye on the game and check back in with other current players from time to time to see how it's going for them.
IRT Don Trump:
I suppose asking for an insightful opinion on my original post is too much to ask for...You did make an interesting attempt at negative psychology but I believe you missed the point of my original post. Which would be better? Picking back up a character that can fly pretty much every ship in the game, shoot every weapon type, but only average with all of it? Or retrain a focused, specialized character with clear goals based on past experience with the game?
Ceseuron you are totally missing the point everyone is trying to make. You said you have an old character with 20-25 million skillpoints right? How would making a brand new character make you more specialised? You have two choices - use a character with lots of skillpoints or use a character with virtually no skillpoints. You think using a brand new character with no skillpoints is a better option which is just simply retarded!
Just take your current character and train up the skills you want to use. A new one isnt going to be any better.......it will just take you longer to get a pilot that is EXACTLY the same. Dont you understand that two characters with the same skill trained up to the same level are going to be equally good at that skill? Why dont you understand that?
Please explain how your current character is "average" at everything. The only way he can be average is if you have lots of skills trained up to level 2 or 3. Just train up the skills you want to specialise in to a higher level and then you're specialised. Problem solved. Started a new character will just mean you will have to go through all of that training again but you will have 20-25 million less skillpoints invested in skills.
If you cant understand this and still think that having shit loads of skills trained up is a waste then you truly are a dumb ass of epic proportions.
