I thought I would give my impressions of the "File-Planet" beta. So here we go!
Install
Install was pretty simple. The client was by far impressive for it's size. While downloading, I kept thinking this better not be Vanguard 2.0 all over again. I only have a 150 gig hard drive so it was taking up precious pr0n space! :)
Logging In
Logging in was rather easy. There was a small patch at which I was getting it at 600k/sec. I found it odd I had to login though before the client would patch and then upon getting to the login screen. It took about 8 minutes timed to get to the in-game login screen, were i then proceeded to login for the second time! I got to the character selection screen rather quickly, and quickly made the class I was most looking forward to playing. (Herald of Xotti)
Playing
Know this is were I was totally amazed. The way they set-up the newbie experience is quite fun. I really felt engaged in the story. The voice overs are done really well and the graphics, for being on a mix of medium and low are very attractive. My frame rate was around 33-40 fps in towns, and single player wise around 50. The lag was rather tremendous though. At times I would get huge 10000ms spikes, but they were usually only when I was in the multi player mode or PvP'ing. The game play was really fun and I enjoyed myself. It took me about 4 hrs to hit the level 13 cap while going in and out of afk eating dinner and whatnot.
Final Impression and the look forward
Although I had a positive experience, I can't say all my friend's did. One in particular couldn't even login to the game due to some huge error's. He's a huge torrent downloader though, so he could of very well had some virus issue's. Both me and my best friend will be pre-ordering. We both see huge succes in what this game will become. But as for this client we got released. The majority census thinks its garbage. And it is! I've had the luxury of seeing and playing a little bit of what is "General Beta" and it is a very different atmosphere all together. It plays more solid like a game that should be released. But this client we received for the beta was the total opposite. I'm rather surprised Funcom would release a client to a large amount of people with this many flaws. Business wise it didn't make alot of sense. Hopefully the knew people would speculate off this client alone. And hopefully this will not be the released version. And this should serve warning to other mmo's out there, if your going to release a beta in as large of a scale as AoC did, release a solid client. Forget the cap and all that mumbo jumbo, if you support your product 100%, then you shouldn't be afraid to show all your cards. If it's a great game, people will come!

Since not one game has launched 100% bug-free and content full, then we have all paid for beta. And if your still playing the game, then your still playing for beta. This goes for everygame, because every mmo out there has bugs/missing content/server outages still. This is how MMORPG's will always be. For you WAR fans, call up Mythic and ask them if there game will be 100% content full and ready to go on release. I bet you half them will say no, if they still have jobs, heh. This crap is luducris people, this is what an mmorpg is. A game in development. Your 15 bucks a month and 50 bucks for the dvd's is an investment. And don't give me the bullshit, well would you buy a car with only 3 tires? This game and a car/orange/whatever the hell you want insert there cannot be compared. They are two totally different things. Want a comparison, men vs. women. Theres your freaking comparison, go for it. AoC is a niche game with a decent size fanbase. Your 5 sec topic threads won't hurt it. If you think your paying to play beta, then DONT freakin pay. How simple is that? Get over whatever complex you have with society and move the hell on.
ok so you are a "conformist" gamer willing to pay xxxx $ a mont for an unfinished product once and again ,,, if less "conformism" was shown by the large ammount of mmoers like you, we would get BETTER products at launch. So it's only your faul (and the others like you) we get such trash to p2p for 4 and some months. MAYBE not everyone is as stupid as you and thats why they criticise these products because honestly ...from the bottom of my heart (thats a lvl 62 Cimmerian barbariam) this game is JACK...
Nuff said.
How is it it's my fault as a consumer, that me paying for a faulty product ruins things for you, or anyone else for that manner. So your going to sit here and tell me how I live my life affects how you live yours? Seriously? I've got to say, this is the most outrageous/scary thing I've heard in quite sometime. I'm almost wondering if your watching me secretly and I just don't know it. What I buy has nothing to do with the effect of product's and consumer's. If so, we would all be still using WINME, because that sold alot of copies, but have you seen anyone still run that OS? It's not my fault for playing something I enjoy, which is entertainement, and you don't. It's called living in the REAL WORLD, and making your own decisions. Not letting something like my opinon think it will effect everyones. We actually think AoC is a good product and shows promise. Yes they have there fault's, and that's why I pay a monthly fee to them. To see them make a better product. If you know anything about game development, you would know how stressful and challenging it can be. Have you ever gone to a GDC, or a Blizzcon and talked with any game developer's? Trust me when I say the life isnt great. The pay maybe, but the actual job, especially when your high up and dealing with investor's, plain sucks.
But for you to sit here and blaim me, a person who takes entertainment for what it's worth, and just enjoys gaming, as the source of your functional problem is just sad. Wake up and smell the coffee. Just because 10 million people buy a shitty product, doesn't mean every product after will be of less quality. That's just not how shit works. Ya dig?

Well I give them a 9.5 for an amazing game. Let me guess, you think I'm some fanboi now?
I love instancing
I love the balance in class's
I love Funcom
I love the you are not playing the game
Now what? Call me what you want, it's my opinion. You may be thinking I'm some fool, but who's the fool thinking this won't happen to every MMORPG? DONE!

US servers have an ETA of 4:30 EDT. People seriously need to learn to read. The reason for removing topics from the forums board, is because several people are making the same dam topic threads, when they have already labeled one thread as the main one. Yet again, people not learning how to read. So im going to put this easy for you simpletons out there, if you cannot attempt to read or do a search, then just don't reply. And the forums were down for a quick sec for database issue's. Nothing big, and it happens to alot of companys.
People need to get over the "This game is garbage crap", thinking droves of people will follow them. This is a game people. Can some of you not understand that some people like this game? So what if they do, if it bothers you that much, go beg Mythic for a beta key. Regardless, these are video games, and if your going to go out of your way to prove how crappy the game is on a forums board, then you have already proved to us you have no life. To those who care, Alchemy is fixed and Gem's and SIlk's can now be seen on the trader, WOOT! Time to build me up a nice set of crafted/gemmed gear for soem hardcore grinding.
No offense, but since when is WoW detailed. You can find the same house's in Orgrimmar in the rest of the game. All they do is change the values of hue, color, transparency and size. Blizzard has done this with every game and every expansion, they just reuse things until they quit making the game itself. This is really all im going to say, because WoW is what it is, simple. If it wasn't, 10 million people wouldnt be playing it. As for me, im in with AoC, i like challenges.
Which IP would you like to see become Bioware's new MMO?
