From what information is available, STO and SGW are going to be very different games, so that's good news as well. STO: a little cartoony in the character models (which I don't personally mind one bit), with attractive and dazzly enough scenery and sets; it had BETTER have some narrative content, or the whole thing is a big nothing (which would fit right in with the history of the IP in gaming). SGW: more of a shooting game, seemingly fast moving; the potential is there for good story content, but the developers haven't given much to point in that direction... but I'll be happy to learn of info that proves me wrong there. If posters have some good info on SGW's plans for character development, please provide links if you can.
Peace
Enterprise was a gross violation of the whole mood and ethos of the Star trek universe, it just sucked on so many levels.
That said, if a new series ever happens, I would argue for an infusion of ideas, characters, and atmosphere from the most recent novels. The writing has been much more consistent in the last few years, and there is an expansion of the scope and pallette without abandoning the core notions of the IP.
Titan? I'd be surprised if Jonathan Frakes was averse.
Anyway, just my two cents.
What is the problem? The graphics look fine to me. The game needs to run. I think it's a good look, heck of a lot better than CoH. It's not cartoony, it's stylized, as any mmo needs to be in some way. Seems like some posters here are just unaware of the basic problems at this stage of graphic design, particularly when it comes to character models. You have to have stylization in order to get convincing expressiveness and movement. Photo-realism sounds nice, but look at the stiffness and awkwardness of lotro animals to see what happens when this is the overriding concern.
The question none of us can answer without playing the game, whenever that is possible, is: is it immersive? That's all that matters when it comes to graphics.
It's so simple: WoW is not meaty enough for the most hardcore gamers, but it is, for millions of people, fun. It has been fun since the early lag problems were sorted out, and it continues to be fun. There are things other games have that WoW doesn't, but it remains... fun for those who like it.
I am increasingly convinced that the game was intended to fail. it's a golden parachute made out of investors' money, so that the Funcom higer-ups can ride into the sunset, and not have to actually fix the company into a profitable enterprise. It would not be the first time, I have even personally witnessed such a business strategy. Heck, just go watch the movie "The Producers" for a primer on how it's done.
How many hours per day do you play MMORPGs?
