But yeah I sifted through a lot many grinders felt like they stole the same engine and switched out some models

Silk Road Online immediately comes to mind (though I wouldn't necessarily recommend it). Another is Dream of Mirror Online, which despite being "cute" actually has a pretty cool multi-profession, skill-based system. Oh and another I believe is Mabinogi by Nexon, though I never got much farther than the tutorial.

Korean grinders aside, if you dig superheroes, you might want to keep an eye on Champions Online. It's supposed to have very free-form, skill-based character progression.

I clearly stated that the game needed content and balance, and all you have listed as it's faults were content and balance.

What about the awesome player housing system(house pack up was needed at the start but not put in right away. If they put automated house pack up on inactive accounts the system would have been perfect), the crafter driven economy, skill based profession system with no locked in classes, no levels, among a plethora of other great features? These were all awesome features that were, and still are way ahead of their time. No other game since then has really picked up these features in their entirety.

You're talking as if all these "balance issues" were relatively trivial and occurred despite sound mechanics. I'm proposing quite the opposite.

And what about the awesome player housing system? Yeah, what about it? Or to the point, what exactly was so awesome about it, and what the heck did it have to do with freakin' Star Wars??

And then there's the "crafter driven economy". Ooh that was so great... if you were an Armorsmith (or a lot-swapping, resource trader). For just about everyone else, it sucked balls. Droid engineers? Wow, let's give them a product a) no one wants to buy, b) no one has a use for, and c) if anyone does actually buy, they never need to replace. It's not as if the movies ever featured androids.

Skill-based profession systems are hardly anything new, heck you can even grab a few free-to-play Korean grinder MMOs that offer that now. But no levels? Heh, what game were you playing where a Kreetle was equal to a Krayt Dragon, or a full-template Bounty Hunter was equal to a Novice Marksman? SWG most certainly had "levels" they were simply transparent.

Frankly, I think you're looking at the past through rose-colored glasses. Don't feel bad, as many others do too. Heck, SOE strung me along for quite awhile as well. I waited from month to month for that next big, and often promised "miracle patch" that would resolve all the game's issues. It never happened.

I think you need to re-examine the context of what I wrote and WHY I wrote it. Or more to the point, what YOU wrote and what I was responding to...

I disagree the original Star Wars Galaxies had the basic systems in place to be an absolutely amazing game.

In my opinion, the "basic systems" were nether in place nor well-conceived from the get go.

If you want to kid yourself into believing that KD+Dizzy, Unarmedhit3, Unarmedhit3, Unarmedhit3, focusing all your attacks on the Mind bar (for example) or loading up on 99% resist compo armor and doc buffs that boosted your stats tenfold was "thinking" while playing games, then knock yourself out. However, you can kindly spare me the condescending "spoonfed" diatribe for pointing what a bunch of nonsense that is.

I've got to disagree with you there. Vehemently. For starters, they'd have to FINISH the game before they could start polishing it.

Frankly, and I think even Raph has conceded this, it was just far too ambitious.

Forget about bugs. On launch, a considerable portion of the game's professions and skills simply weren't implemented. They weren't merely broken... they outright weren't there.

And granted this is more personal opinion than anything else, but in a universe filled with space ships, ray guns, and talking robots... we had professions specializing in... swordfighting? Really?? Not lightsabers —hokey religions and ancient weapons aside— but conventional swords??

Perhaps even more ridiculous, arguably one of the most effective combat professions was... barefisted, Chuck Norris Karate?? Second to what? Pokemon "Creature Handlers"??

And don't get me started on the laughably redundant and grossly over-complex "HAM" mechanics, the utter uselessness of droids, smugglers who couldn't smuggle, or the horribly conceived and arbitrarily concocted "player-interdependency" systems. Hell, the game launched with neither vehicles nor SPACE.

A "Star Wars" game WITHOUT space content? Are you kidding me?? They had time to craft professions centered around dancing emotes and cooking pies for the Empire... but no fookin' space battles??

    • Yeah, and I don't want another half-ass "open world" sandbox that would do just as well with a cowboy-western theme.

I also don't want another game that dotes on munchkins and treats the rest of the playerbase like second-class citizens.

You want a challenging sci-fi sandbox with galactic conquest? I'd recommend EVE Online. Prefer hack 'n slash? Cross your fingers that Darkfall actually amounts to something.

Meanhile, I'll keep hoping for a real Star Wars game that doesn't suck (aka, don't let George Lucas —or for that matter Raph Koster— have a damn thing to do with it).
