You can't say SWG was a flop if you never played it. That game was a huge success until sony Screwed the pooch, like they've done with all their other games. After that, the player housing system was the only reason anyone still played. Then they broke THAT! If you say player houses and cities ruin the landscape, blah, blah, blah, then there are always alternatives. What about creating a couple continents or the like that are instanced away from the rest of the game, where people have absolute freedom to build and expand and such. There are always ways to do things better. SWG had the best idea... now it's time for someone to take that idea and improve upon it. It doesn't matter to me how many people, with their mis-guided and un-educated opinions, try to tell me, that player housing is bad. You are flat out wrong, or flat out in-experienced with the subject. No one, who has played and experienced SWG housing and cities in their prime, could ever say, they hated it, or that it made the game worse. Sony did that, all by their lonesome.
I had the Atari and all that. I also had the NES, SNES, N64... blah, blah, blah. I loved em. But I wasn't able to get a computer till later on. In fact, the reason I got one was because I was obsessed with a little game called DIABLO!!! Totally started a whole slew of gaming. Loved C&C, that got me LAN-ing. Then it was Battlefield 1942... that got me on Ventrilo... which eventually led to MMO's. First one of those? EQ, BUT, it wasn't my first MMO love, yes THAT role is reserved for Star Wars Galaxies... Beta and up until SONY started SCREWING the fans. :)
I absoloutely agree with Netzoko! What the deuce is the deal with NO PLAYER HOUSING?! You know what a completely customizable house and city brings you? Try having communities and economies as robust, creative and realistic as you did in SWG. Buisnesses sprung up EVERYWHERE! I had a guy who took an entire player town and turned it into a huge metropolis, not because he was the mayor, but because he was producing the best weapons and armors in the game. People flocked to that city just for the shopping value. More retailers popped up, and it was beautiful. Some say on here that no one has the time to put into player housing and city's designed that way... well if that's true, then how come everyone and their grandmother had so much time to do it when SWG was released and loong after? I don't believe that. Give ya another example of customizabilty... City of Heroes/Villains. I have seen Super bases that must have taken MONTHS to cultivate into the beauty I have seen. I saw one the other day, and I was FLOORED at how good they made a base look, using the decor that CoH had available. Also look at their character customization. Everyone I know in that game spend a LOT of time just making characters. What does this say? It says that gamers WANT options, they want the ability to openly create something that can become theirs, and as a whole a community that has grown together. The city we had initially in SWG, on Tatooine, was a Rebel/Imperial City. Over time, the city grew so much in Imperials that the rebels eventually left. There were very few. We grew from a multi faction City to an Imperial stronghold. We had Special forces bases just out side the city to keep Rebels from approaching. I happened to be the Imperial Leader, through promotions and popularity. I didn't just let it go to my head. I was there for everyone else. We had Imperial day where I brought in Storm troopers, tie fighters and Imperial Shuttles, gave away prizes etc.. You get the point. Where else r u gonna get such a vibrant, robust, creative and capable system in a game that allows that level of interaction? It all sprouted from player housing. I think this issue falls into the same category as player co-op in SP games. The developers just DON'T GET IT! Why NOT offer Co-Op? Why NOT offer customizable player housing and community's? Why Not?
I'm the same way. In every MMO I have ever played, what made it or broke it for me was whether there was a real since of wild exploration. No auto fill maps or the like. Maps are good, but they can also tear up your whole since of exploration in a game. There is nothin like having to remember where to go. Getting lost in a huge forest. 40+ worlds sounds great! I can't wait, I have all the seasons of SG-1 and Atlantis, and props from the show. I can't wait to see what the intelligent interaction between sentient beings is gonna be like!
In light of the recent update which changed the effects of certain AoE powers for the Tempest of Set, what is your favourite Priest archetype class in Age of Conan?
