I started the 10 day trail a few days ago and have not experienced any lag.
If I was it would not be any worse than what I used to get when playing WoW.
Although I have to agree with the OP's topic title. Stay away from DDO! It'll smack you upside the head with weird things like character immersion and compelling gameplay.
I too came from WoW after numerous 70s and enjoy the increase of interaction within the game.
I just downloaded the trail for D&DO a few days ago and it went smoothly. I did not get my download from Fileplanet. The download from DDO's website was quick and smooth. I did have to try 3 email addresses to get a key though. The first 2 attempts at getting a key didn't work. The key was never sent. But after a 3rd email address was tried, it went through.
I am trying the game out now and so far I am enjoying it.
