Truthfully WoW has many flaws, but these are hardly the ones that I would consider significant. With that said, I never expect Blizzard to put out an MMO that meets my expectations because it doesn't truly innovate.

This. And multiple group dungeons from 10-50 for each level range. Although you may have trouble grouping before 20.
My guess is that a larger cache size and a raptor (or whatever 10k rpm hd you're considering) would reduce hitching. These computer stats won't increase your normal FPS though. They'll only keep your fps from dropping when loading new objects/areas.
I run it with a 7.2k rpm and admittedly hitching could be better but it's certainly playable. It all depends on how much you're willing to spend.

Not sure how VG is but every other MMO(not sure about EVE, tbh) gives you a free month with purchase of a box. That doesn't include games that give you the software, and you just pay monthly fees.
Yes. Vanguard gives you a free month with the purchase of the box, unless you used a trial key. Then you don't get a free month. I'm not positive but I'm pretty sure this is how it works.
Blame SOE because that's how it is with all their games.

What characteristics of an MMORPG do you look at most?
