lol what? Law of averages mate, you buy 50 cards a month you're 10 times more likely to get what you want than sticking with the 5 freebies, SOE knows that, the players know that... that's how and why it'll make SOE money.

Unlike Legends of Norath, everyone that plays the game gets 5 free booster packs each month, with each pack having the chance of having loot cards. From what I've read, LoN doesn't do this, if you want the game loot cards from that then your only option is to buy the packs. You only "need" (I don't see anything from the loot cards being a "need" type loot) to pay for the packs for loot in the SWG: TCG if you don't have patience..
It's really nothing to do with "need" though, the one thing mmo players in general excel at is Jonesing, must... have....teh...phat....lewts! type outlook, it's the same in any mmo in existence, just look at the damn murloc pets in WoW, they serve no purpose other than bragging rights, these loot items from the SWG are the same, they don't need to impact combat to have a detrimental effect on the game, particularly the ingame economy. They have the ability to do that merely by existing. SOE turned SWG into a loot focused game which exaggerated that potential in the playerbase they now have and they're effectively preying on that inflated desire for loot with the TCG, if you think they did it because it's a fun addition, or to bring in new players or some other equally noble motive you need to re-assess the situation.
Player search tool, inside "sources", xfire stats, mmochart... probably even the NPD chart, they're mostly irrelevent. The only fact that really matters is how the ingame population effects the overall ingame experience for the average subscriber, now considering that PAYING subscribers have been requesting server merges for almost 3 years and there's always a server merge discussion thread on the first page of the gameplay discussion forum, doesn't that really say all that needs to be said on the matter? 5k, 10k, 150k, 1.5mil.... doesn't matter a fuck if you can't get a group to actually be able to achieve anything.
Looks like it might actually be real, just a shame it's got 2 things going against it, 1) It's yet another tired old orcs vs dwarves vs elves vs human, mage vs warrior vs hunter etc, crap.... and 2) from the video it looks complete garbage.

I guess the main difference with this instance is that the majority of the "omg teh sky is falling" type stuff is eminating from the official forums, says a lot more when previously happy subscribers bitch and whinge than those of us that haven't paid to play the game in over 3 years do.
