- This s not about WAR vs. WoW
Before the flames start let me get this out there; this post is not a WAR vs. WoW. Rather its a few questions that I have that maybe the average, everday player can answer for me.
1. Is WAR going to be worth quitting your favorite game to pay and play? For me not really. I've been playing WoW for several years. I enjoy it, I play with 'real life' friends, 'online' friends, and have multiple 70s. For now I can't see quiting my current game to start the long ardous trek again.
2. Is WAR bringing anything new to the genre? Not that I can see. It's a fantasy based game (ugh another fantasy MMO); i.e. elves, dwarves, orcs, blah, blah, blah. I love the Warhammer fantasy setting, in fact I would call it 'gothic-fantasy' (I ran the pen & paper game for several years, check it out if you get the chance). I really hope to see it implemented in the online version. For now ,though, it seems to be another fantasy MMO.
3. Iconic IPs have had a terrible time being brought to life via online gaming: Dungeons & Dragons, LoTR, AoC (I don't see this game going anywhere, but we'll see). Will WAR be any different? Not sure yet. But there is a lot of hype surronding this game. I for one really hope it lives up to it.
4. will the current players of the tabletop game find their way online? I highly doubt it. The niche gamers are very loyal to thier way of gaming. Most have groups that meet at least once a week at their favorite comic book shop. That type of interaction can not be replicated online (yet).
What I'm trying to get at is simple; WAR needs to stand out from the crowd in a MAJOR way. Questing, PvP, dungeons, gear, have all been done over and over. I'm looking for that new title to tear me away from my current game. Hopefully WAR will be it.
