I chose based on race rather than faction. Orcs are Horde, and thus so am I. I've fiddled around with a few Alliance toons, but my main is an Orc Warrior.
I totally misunderstood the crafting thing then. I thought they were saying it'd be more combine-anything in nature. For example, the quality of Ingredient 1 defines the result as a healing potion. The quality of Ingredient 2 defines its duration. Ingredient 3 determines how strong it is. But I might have extrapolated poorly from the video.
Also, I think what they meant by not making hundreds of useless items is that everything will be consumable. Healing potions are used up fairly rapidly, unlike a sword which never gets 'used up' until it's replaced. Selling a dozen swords might be impossible, but selling a dozen healing potions might not be.
City of Heroes had a great launch as far as I can recall. Open Beta that everyone could join in on (for free), 3 days in advance for everyone who pre-ordered, and a smooth launch with minimal trouble.
Hi there. CoX is still doing pretty well. It's got its niche. To answer your questions:
- Yes, the vast majority of missions are exclusive to one side. Heroes do heroic missions and villains do significantly less heroic missions. I find that heroes tend to have way more missions, having been around longer, but villains have more quality missions, as most were made more recently.
- I'm not sure what you mean by geographical limitations.
- Stores and the like are all basically the same for heroes and villains, though heroes tend to run the epic stuff more often (at least on the Virtue server), and have easier epic stuff to do, and so their market tends to have more goodies readily available.
- Both sides have very compelling story lines. Note that the majority of people tend to play heroes.
Hope this helps.
