• • State of the Game???

  • Cool, thanks alot for the information guys.  I haven't played all weekend, so I'll be testing out some of the advice.  I'm still churning out low-levels because I'm familiarizing myself with the archtypes.  I rolled a scrapper first, and that's fun, but the range limitation made it a bit tedious (chasing enemies down and all).  Then I rolled a blaster, and that's alot of fun.  Nowhere near as squishy as I had assumed it would be.

  • So I resubbed last night, and man did I ever miss the character creation mode.  That could be a game all it's own.  And I have a few questions:

    1. Lag.  There's a bit of lag when walking around the city.  Are there any tips on how to reduce it, any options that I can toggle off that'll make noticeable affects?

    2. Levelling.  I've noticed that it's much easier to level than last time I was here.  But other than going on building searches and eliminating enemies, what can I expect in terms of content between lvls 5-15?  Is it all missions from contacts?

    3. Grouping.  What's the grouping like in this game?  I'm assuming it makes things alot faster to level considering how easy it was solo.

    3. Special live event.  I think there was a live event last night.  I was standing around and all of a sudden the sky darkened and a bombardment began.  We fought off aliens for some 15minutes.  It was alot of fun!

    So I think I'm going to be sticking around for at least the full month to try out the features that I haven't tried yet.  And I'll probably start looking for a guild (or whatever they're called in CoH) soon.  Thanks all again.

  • If you're joining up, don't look for any innovations in terms of combat.  There are cool group moves, but solo play is pretty straight forward MMO stuff.  What shines about LotRO to me is the landscaping and the quality/quantity of quests, as well as the diversity of activities you can do.  And with the recently added housing update, you can now 'live' in ME (which to me is a huge plus for the game, although prices are a bit steep).

  • I really like how they manage the progression and storyline in LotRO.  What Turbine has done very well is allow for a mix and match approach to levelling.  There are so many quests, and you don't have to do all of them.  I mix questing with grinding for traits, then I do alot of crafting (5 slots gives you alot of different possibilities in crafting), and I also love to explore the landscapes (which helps immensely when questing).

    And it's easy for RPers because they have so many different spots that are seeped in lore.  PvP may not be as good as other games, but Turbine has been pretty vocal about how PvP is NOT the axis of the game, cooperative play is.  This is awesome.  I love to skirmish with other players, but an MMO like this is PvE-centric for a reason.

  • Awesome.  I've never been against a bit of grinding, I find it relaxing sometimes.  Maybe I'll resub tonight to try out the new features for a month.  If I truly dislike it, then I doubt another Issue is going to keep me interested.  But as of a few days ago, I caught the CoH bug again.

    If anyone can recommend good servers, I'd be much appreciative.
