If you have less then 4 GB RAM you'll probably have a Problem with 2 Clients.
2 Clients will use around 3 GB RAM and you need RAM for the Operating System itself.
3,5 GB could eventually work decently.
On my 4GB Vista 64 Machine 2 Clients did run without a Problem. (ATI 4850 HD 512MB). Tested it a few days ago with a friends account.
Expansions are free of charge. Just buy the lastest copy of the game in a shop or online on the PlayNC website and it will always patch to the latest expansion :)
I have played EQ1 for about 3 years (with some breaks). Started when it was released.
You'll definately not get the experience we had back then, but if you ask for tips:
my tip would be to deactivate all new player character models in the options.
The newer models are ugly, unproportional and are animated really bad. I think they came with the 3rd? expansion (Shadows of Luclin). The old ones may have less detail but they were just much better in every other way.
Unless I have missed infos about a player character model update the Luclin models are still in game exactly like they were back then.
I have my doubts that you will enjoy this game nowadays due to the lack of players in lower levels and the difficult content that really needs groups. Leveling was quite slow. Other than that the early game really didn't have too much quests which is uncommon for a current gen MMO.
It was pretty much grinding / exploring / doing dungons and raids with the guild. And I really liked it. It was great fun, we had great experiences and we did a lot of crazy stuff, but there were so many people in all level ranges back then, I can't see that happening today.
With all the additional zones that came over the years, the already low population must be extremly spread out with a few high level dungeon / raid hotspots.
Anyway, I hope you'll have fun with the current EQ1!
