    • The WoW = McDonalds analogy
    • WoW is considered by most as the McDonalds of mmo because:

      1. it's for the masses

      >young or old, casual or hardcore, PvEr or PvPer, noob or vet--- you'll find something in the game that will keep you hooked for a loooooong time

I know an 8 year old who farms Arena pts. My old raiding guild leader is 54 years old and he plays with his son and his son's son annnnnd the raid warning announcer wife.

      2. it's one the cheapest of all quality products out there

      >you still pay for sub but you don't have to buy a new computer to play this game

i still play this game from time to time to check on my online friends using a 6year old Dell computer. :)

      3. almost fast food

      >you can do quick PvE mob grinds, PvP via BG or WorldPvP (if you know where to find people  ie, farm spots)

It took me less than an hour to complete all the new Daily Quests with my main and alt. 300g easy. Don't forget the 200+honor I got from killing the other faction on the way to the quest spots.

So, buy new / upgrade computer to meet new untested game's ridiculous requirements or save $ and play an award winning almost-bigger-than-country game? TY for dining.

      World of Warcraft
    • So...what WOULD be a WoW killer?
    • WoW killer? Not gonna happen anytime soon. Old and new companies don't want to kill WoW. They're thankful that Blizzard made a milestone. People see the mmorpg scene more now because of the ridiculous amount of hype WoW subs brought to the non-gaming world. New companies want a share of what WoW has but the main goal right now is to expand the mmorpg market. Killing WoW now is a very bad idea. Making something that can go toe-to-toe with WoW is the best option for companies right now. Having 2-3-4-or more mmorpgs that have million subs + WoW's 10mil sub is what people should be aiming for. If WoW loses a huge chunk of subs because they transferred to a new mmo, people who have the $$$ will lose interest to fund new projects because they'll notice that the mmorpg market has a cap. Let the 800lb gorilla of the mmorpg market enjoy the throne.

Let's say it's time. What will it take?

      1. Better and cheaper technology.

Making a game is not cheap. Making a game that has no ending is worse. We all have ideas we want put in the game. The problem is $ and the limited technology we have.

      2. the Pixar of video games

Who and Why did I pick Pixar? Toy Story, Monsters Inc, Finding Nemo ring a bell? Pixar took down the decades-old 2D animation industry in a blink of an eye then kicking it while it's down and kicking it more with every box office hit year after year. A bit too much? WoW is just 4 years old but it is backed by legions of War/Starcraft + Diablo and Blizzard fans. If there's group of people willing to take the challenge, they must be like Pixar. Pixar made 3D movies with passion. Passion that spilled over to their work. They made 3D movies they too would love watch. They made animated movies that appealed to all age groups. They got Steve Jobs believing in them and we all know how Mr.Jobs is. Imagine a game world made by these people... /cream

What I hate about WoW now is the fact that it's slowly turning into a real McDonalds of mmorpg. People are noticing the half-assed content patch after patch. Content made without the love of the game. It's like having someone, who has no real idea of the game lore, made content just so they can announce an upcoming patch.

    • Getting the Urge to play an MMO again...must fight it

I still like coming to this site though.  For some reason, right now I am having more fun reading about mmo's than playing them.

      burned out mmo player too

OP go to [insert game] forums so you can read about player whines and lose interest or just watch player uploaded in-game videos to remind yourself why you left

mmog = massively multiplayer online grind

In short try playing more than two games before you make such uninformed, inaccurate posts.

*sigh* I made it super simple so people don't get critted by a wall of text. I pointed out WoW and EVE because they have the most successful game architecture/design based on consumer feedback. FYI graphics is the the 2nd most debated and the easiest telling factor if the game has evolved and up to date next only to combat AI.

My played games: AO, AC 1&2, CoX, D&D, DAoC, D&L, Dofus, EnB, Entropia, EVE, EQ1&2, Fairyland, FFXI, GW,  L1&2, LoMir, LotR, MU, Planetside, PTale, RagO, RF, Runescape, SpaceCowboy, SoR, Tibia, TRasa, UO, WoW, and a bunch of F2P/P2P discontinued games. Beta tested most of these games. I still have copies of some of these games' alphas.

Everything has been done before and they all need up to date tweaks for that MMOrgasmic experience.

i miss playing the old mmos...

I'm not sure what you're looking for and where you're looking but mmorpg.com has lists of upcoming games that people find better and more sophisticated than WoW and all the other released mmorpgs (EVE Online is an exception because that game is a masterpiece of our time--way ahead of it's time too).

WoW and EVE set a common standard for next-gen mmorpgs.

You either make them WoWfun fast simple with added humor or EVEserious slow paced with life-like economy and wars.

I can't tell you what better choices and quality MMOs YOU will like but I can point you to some new MMOs people think are and will be better than the old set of MMOs in the market.

examples of new released titles people consider better than the old mmos including WoW

Tabula Rasa, Lord of the Rings --these are only two of the new releases that have better graphics and added sauce you will not find in the old mmos

examples of upcoming titles people think will be better than the old mmos including WoW

Age of Conan, Aion, Darkfall, Chronicles of Spellborn, Warhammer --upcoming MMOs being developed with old non-broken mmo content topped with next gen graphics, improved AI, and more old stuff tweaked by new and actually funded developers.
