A quick study of the chart shows that in correlation to its releases, something in Jan of 2007 and something in Jan of 2008 causes their numbers to spike.
Obviously, the Jan 2007 data corresponds to "The Burning Crusade".
I am not currently playing WoW, so I am currently unaware what happened in January of this year.
On a side note, some of the drop off may be related to economic issues.
And finally, WoW seems to be building a heavy "front end" position for their market. I say this because it appears that they target January and February for their "subscriber spike" and anticipate a drop off all the way through Christmas. NOT ironically, Wrath of the Lich King is slotted for November.
...why...that's just in time for a January subscriber spike.
This is exactly what I was going to say after looking at that chart.
WoW, basically deserves a wow. This game has ran strong for a long time. Attracting players of all ages and play styles. And even though their arent a whole lot of battlegrounds, they will still always remain fun because their are always new strategy's to learn. And you can always add on to raids. In the next expansion the raids will have 25 and 10 man options for strategy's and play styles.
I have played other games. But i always migrate back to good Ole wow.
Also for the botters who say its a grind fest. Go try Anarchy, now that games is grind fest. I only played till lvl 7 do to the grinding.
And as for wow. Not a grind fest. Yes you may need to kill 30 or so mobs for a quest, but you can always skip it and still get to where you need to be. Or you can think of it as a challenge, because they usually have good rewards afterwards.
yah i hated the booty bay to hunters camp jog.
