Is AOC even breathing anymore?
WoW -- I am loving the attention this thread is getting. Obviously a hot topic that hasn't been flushed out in the MMO boards in a little while.
What I have gained from this is:
1. Some items NEED to be soulbound -- I agree.
2. People would like to see 'lower' tier, level wise items on the grind to max level droppable and sellable -- I agree.
3. Armor should still be repaired -- to cause a money sink -- agreed.
Next question with regards to the loot. Lets say all loot was droppable -- if they implemented the system in Lineage II where loot was enhanceable at a risk -- would this help to create a bigger money sink -- or would we see more gold farmers? Obviously there will be a balance somewhere and gold farming will always exist.
Would you like to see stat enhanced weapons -- at a risk to the enhancer?

Dont we all. I think WoW has set the bar for the next generation of MMOs. I am not sure which bars they have set... pvp wise? pve wise... but none the less it seems to be the measuring stick of the last few years.
Names like WOW Killer ... etc are beginning to come to light. I love it. I applaud Blizzard for their success. I dont like their model, but how can you not like their results. More people MMO than ever before ... one big reason WOW.
I look forward to the next game that opens the market some more so we will have more choices, people to play with and guilds to belong too.

I think a lot of people believe I am not a raider -- thats the part that is funny to me. I actually have been a member of a great many 'high' end raid guilds.
I am merely trying to provoke good thought from the MMO community. Whether right or wrong, I want people to question the normal evolution of games. I believe if you review my threads you will find this to be the case.
I am not here to flame, be flamed ... or anything else. I want everyone from day 1 to year 70 to wonder ... where are we headed, is it a good direction and what do we miss from different games. Too much top down MMO design has been in the works these days, IMO. I would like to see thought provoking posts and critics of the new and old ways.
BTW -- everyone has made some nice contributions to this thread. Thanks and keep voting!

Well, the idea of BOP, BOE stuff are not necessary bad, if it is accompany with gear-advancement (not replacing one with higher lvl one, but gear actually improve in stats and whatnot...). There's reason behind this thought...
1.) Not all like to raid, and for those who don't like the newer "epic" items, their old one would still work (and be improved on) than trying to replace with a new one when progressing through contents (why do people think gear progression = PvE? Those are two separate idea lumped together to be the goal for some [i.e. raiders] to "feel" they've done something and have a subset goal of complete the set of gear...)
2.) For some, the look of their character is important, and by using this specific form of gear-advancement, they get to keep their outlook, yet still function as they progress through contents.
Personally, I believe that BOP/BOE should not be so easy to get (drop from mob, and listed as BOP/BOE...) Rather, the OPTION of BOP/BOE should turn on only after the character has met the condition... I read Chinese novels online all the time, and in some fantasy setting, there are the idea of BOP/BOE in the novel, but it goes deeper than just get the drop from mobs and such.
1.) It must be "worthy" to be BOP/BOE... That is, only MASTER ARMORSMITH/WEAPONSMITH can create these items, and specifically for the character.
2.) Many of these items grow in power (stats) over-time ... which is the gear-advancement I mentioned earlier...
3.) Character must be at a certain power (stats, level, etc...) before able to use effectively of the gear...
Now some would ask what about the regular gears? Well, who says you can have such wonderful gear at the beginning of your journey in MMO? These things must be earned... So by incorporate the different aspect of the BOP/BOE, crafting, and whatnot, you can have a better economy...
Anyway, I'll add more to this later...
Loved your post -- looking forward to more soon. I agree with the work for BOP and BOE items... I really do.
