I will say it's because on some servers, you can't find anyone in the RvR and PQ areas.

RvR zone was empty in T2 on Wasteland last night during primetime.  Elf area and Empire.  I admit there might have been some in T2 Greenskin/Dwarf area, but do to no acknowledgement in chat, I don't know.  Had I not wasted 2.5 hours popping between the various areas and in and out of scenarios (cause that's the only PvP I could find), I didn't make it to the Greenskin/Dwarf zone.  I will do so tonight, wish me luck!

2.5 hours...primetime...nobody...does not bode well.  I'm going to go cry now.

Far from being dead, the PQs on my server are almost ALWAYS active, at least during "prime time" hours.  no, you can't find pickup groups for PQs at 4am, but that should come as no shock.  I can go wander around tier 2 or tier 3 zones (depending on which character I am playing) and find PQ groups already working the content at about half the PQs.  A lot of those groups pop over to another PQ once they've run that one a few times, too, so there's nice variety.

Glad this is working this way for you.  On my server, Wasteland, this is not the case (I play evenings from around 6:30pm to 11:30pm EST).  You can get through stage one and two MAYBE, but the end boss is a no go due to people not playing the PQ's.

Chat?  Methinks someone has spent too much time in WOW.  WAR's chat is like Eve, and like AC, and like...oh, darned near every other game except WOW.  =P  Why on earth would I WANT to listen to the random spam scrolling by my screen from hundreds of people I don't know talking about random topics I really don't care about?  I like to listen to my guild, and chat with them - many of them I have known for 5+ years in many games.  I don't need to listen to Joe Random cracking inane jokes or some 10 year old asking for the millionth time how to do something that is in the manual.

I don't need active chat to perceive the world as active.  However, people saying "hello" when popping into an open group, or, dare I say, saying "later", or "goodbye" when leaving would be nice.  People responding to someone's reasonable question in general chat would be nice too.  I usually respond "sorry, I don't know the answer to that either", but I'm usually the only one.  That's the rare occasion that I even see people speak.  This game is very unsocial.  Apart from the handful of friends that I chat with, the "social" environment on my server seems fairly dead outside of guild chat.

PvP is outstanding, the best I've seen in a new game in YEARS.  Being able to hop into a scenario is awesome, and the open field RvR is really heating up.  We're off to go cap a couple of keeps tonight, and I expect to have perhaps 40+ Defenders online and raring to go.  I also expect decent enemy contact, because when people see a keep under attack on Volkmar, they come running.  Yes, even at tier 2 and 3.

Tier 1 open RvR was reasonable.  By reasonable, I mean the Destros would be out in force in the RvR area...up until the scenario popped, at which point they would be gone for 10-15 minutes.  Tier 2?  Complete joke.  I spent an hour and a half last night going from the Elf to the Empire T2 RvR areas...found 1 fight the entire night.  I caught a glimpse of a Shaman running off in another area...other than that; completely dead.  I enjoy the Scenarios for a bit, but then I want the open world RvR play...and it is lacking.  On my server, WAR is scenarios...that is all it is.

People need to get it through their heads that this is Not WOW.  Let go of the preconceptions, and play the game for what it is, rather than for what you think it ought to be.  Or leave, and go find another game you prefer - there are plenty of others out there, and honestly - you're in the minority, so your absence won't be missed.  Almost everyone I've spoken to loves the game, and is having a great time.  =)

I guess that you are another of those people that is bitter about WoW's success...though I'm not sure why you would be.  Prconceptions?  Are not you making preconceptions about people complaining about this game?  Anyway, to address the point, if you are upset with WAR, DON'T LEAVE!  Please, for the love of all things, submit feedback and continue logging in.  Wasteland server would love to have you.  Regardless of what this guy says, you will be missed...sorely.  This game is nothing without numbers to RvR.

I forgot to mention in my above comments that I do indeed see lots of chat...unfortunately, it's all in blue text spamming gold and powerleveling.  I get maybe 20 or 30 an hour.  I report each of them, which is taking a significant portion of my playtime away.  If only these damn gold farmers would RvR, then I could live with it.

    • I agree with the other posters.  Your SM was either potting or had a stealth healer.  One reason I don't like to run solo...healers and some ranged can hide well in a bush or something...you get so focused on the fight, you may not see the second enemy until it's too late.  With a buddy, they are easily flushed out.

Also, since WoW came out, it has set a new standard for "success".

It's not longer just 500K, or 1 million, you have to atleast try to get 5 million, or your game fails.

I can't name one MMO that wouldn't absolutely cry tears of joy to have 500k to 1 mill active subs.  WoW is a monster, no other game needs close to that number of subs to be profitable.  500k to 1 million active subs would make any game wildly profitable.

      General Discussion
    • Well we knew it would sell well...
    • I'll give you 3 reasons Spore isn't doing as well as you might have expected:

1)Launch day, an article on CNN.com titled something to the effect of "Spore fails to live up to EA hype", in which the author gives a review that paints the game as bland, and uninspired.

2)Anti-piracy software that beats legitimate users over the head with it's sucky-ness.  Most people hate the software, and refuse to purchase games that use it.  By the way, one big complaint is that, even when you uninstall the game, the anti-piracy software stays, and continues to access the internet to do what it does.

3)Three Super Walmarts in my area had the game in a locked case, similar to what they use to display iPods.  The case was two ailes over from all the other PC and console games, on an end-cap.  The only way for someone to find it realistically is to ask for it.  They are losing a TON of walk-in sales from this alone, I guarantee.

As to why you are comparing the sales volumes of games in different genres, I don't understand.  You'd be better off comparing sales volumes of like-games (like week 2 sales of Guild Wars, or week 2 sales of WoW).
