you simply cannot beat Blizzard at making the best in the genre.
Please, make an innovative game like darkfall so we can begin the process of waiting for Blizzard to perfect it.
Age of Conan isn't really a clone of WoW. It's different in many aspects. In fact, no MMORPG is a clone of WoW. The title "MMORPG" doesn't solely belong to WoW or Blizzard. Just because it is the most recognized MMORPG doesn't mean it is the starter of the category. All MMORPGs are going to have similar qualities, that's what happens when more than one thing is grouped into a category.
You don't have to enter Pre-order or Promotional codes to make an account. Those options are there for people who have them. You could only get them if you pre-ordered the game, or recieved them from some sort of promotional event for the game.
I totally agree with you. I used to play this game all the time back when you had to buy the box first before you could play it. It had some flaws, but I could deal with them since it was a few months after it had came out and I knew they would be fixed soon. I also found the game to have a great helpful community, but I knew that would change when it became free. The day the game became free, I quit, and haven't played since, because I knew it would be horrible to play. First of all, the servers could barely run normally while a few hundred players were on it, so why would they run any better when the game would be flooded with people. Second of all, free games always end up getting overrun with immature kids and foreign people that do even speak English.
You don't have to pay a monthly fee, you just buy the box and play, but some of the content they come out with requires the subscription. For instance, this big content came out that adds the new area Stonehenge, but you can't go there unless you pay the subscription fee. You also can't play the new character classes they come out with. Here is the URL to a list of all the stuff you can do if your a subscriber, and how much it costs.

Hope that helps.
