Funny I was just playing a korean MMO "Granado Espada" and a single NPC gave 5 different quests:
hunt 100 _____
hunt 150 _____
hunt 200 _____
hunt 250 _____
hunt 300 _____
I was like What The Fuck? -looks for uninstall shortcut-
I was posting very similar topics around lately, describing a majority of the korean mmos as being the same: a "beautiful grind". But I was talking about how they are the same in gameplay, because I think that's what's really important--gameplay.
I'm not saying having unique races and classes doesn't make a game even better, but I'd play a game with orcs and elves if the game is still fun. (I played WoW and loved it haha).
I recently discovered a new game, "Blackstar", which has me totally hyped over it. It's sci-fi fantasy involving 4 races (humans, andriods, scorn, riven) with elements of flight sim, melee combat, guns, and MAGIC. I don't really like sci-fi games generally, but this is a mix of sci-fi AND fantasy. The short intro story "A Black Star Rising" has me hooked and the art from the game just blew me away. It's still in development, but you can check out some info at http://www.spacetimestudios.com/games/ . There's also a short video--too short imo, but it makes me want to try it.
I also recommend taking a look at some of their dev blog entries if you're interested in following development:

http://www.spacetimestudios.com/2008/03/11/techs-role-in-grayworlding/
I make no promises that it'll be a good game. I'm just excited about its uniqueness and style.
PS - this is an american made game!
I got sidetracked there hyping up a game. Anyways, like you say, I'm also disappointed that these newer games that are coming out are still the same kind of grind games with the same kinds of races/classes. But even more disappointed that they fail to compare to games that have been released years ago like WoW. WoW has always been the industry leader in team play and content. I'm so disgusted to see that all the new games are so contentLESS and so team play-LESS--with crappy quests and crappy grinding.
However, games like The Chronicles of Spellborn and Blackstar look extremely innovative, and I have very high hopes for the both of them.
Seriously, Nyast has a point.
All of your (Draccan's) points are conjecture and speculation that, say, even a schoolkid could dream up in his spare time.
And as far as I know, there isn't a rule where a game needs a working client to be listed as "under development". While your enthusiasm to maintain some level of quality in the mmo community is appreciated, I really don't feel trolling on this game based on the reasons you have given accomplish that.
I saw a catchy game title on mmosite called Blackstar last week, and went to their site to check it out ( http://www.spacetimestudios.com/games/ ). The artistic design of the game really caught my eye, and it was one of the first things I noticed. Looking at the concept art, I thought that it was a nice blend of sci-fi and fantasy. I checked out the video, and noted the impressive visuals.
The official site barely has any info on the game, which is really disappointing, so I went around gaming sites to look for any news/info about it. Turns out the game used to be funded by NCSoft, but they pulled the plug earlier this year in Jan 08. I'm thinking, Why? It looks like it has a lot of potential. Judging from the albeit short video clip, i gather they already have a lot of stuff done. I'm personally pretty hyped about this game, and would like to see more news about it if at all possible. Maybe the devs are keeping their content super hush hush.
Anyone have any more info on the game?
I'd like to see more videos.
Oh and one other game I'm pretty hyped about is The Chronicles of Spellborn. Both look very beautiful.
This game needs to get the fuck out.
Aside from questing, what do you spend most of your time doing in-game?
