    • Is anyone working on a sandbox (swg style) mmo? - long post
    • Isnt it amazing that a game like SWG with 200,000 to 300,000 subs (at its peak) felt so much more populated and alive because of the social aspects engineered into the game. Current games with populations way beyond what SWG had dont 'feel' as populated.

SWG was ground breaking. When it went live it had problems for sure but the foundation was there, then SOE in its infinate wisdom turned the game around 180 degrees and drove into a clone of the same ol' craptastic crap we have today.

Someday, hopefully, someone will do a sandbox right!

    • SWTOR: EA executive "we gonna outsell WoW".................
    • Not that I disagree with you contention that It may wont make to WoW numbers, but I do wonder what the heck you mean WoW has an 'addictive quality' that SWTOR wont have? What is this addictive quality and how can you surmise SWTOR wont have it?

Also what makes WoW 'more' than a single player game with some mmo functions (that you claim SWTOR will only be)???

    • If there were a pay per hours played in mmorpgs

    •

The Original NeverWinterNights on AOL charged by the hour! It truly one of the first visual mmo's on the market (I believe Meridian 59 was the first?).

But no I would never pay an hourly fee again its just not worth it. Not with games like Guild Wars or even the Diablo series out there.

The monthly fee's time has passed! But hey now were on to micro-transactions YA (what a crap idea that is)!!

    • World of Warcraft: The ultimate forced grouping game
    • It truly boggles my mind why someone would pay a monthly fee to be involved with a massive multiplayer game and want to do everything solo?! Thats an oxymoron if there ever was one.

There are so many quality single player games out there, play one untill your bored with it then buy another, you'll be entertained for years!

Any yes finding a PUG is sometimes difficult but that is due to this isane idea that people want to just solo through this stuff. PUG's and guilds would become very much more prevelant (and relevant) if there was even more 'forced' grouping or at least mobs/quests that require more than one person to deal with.

Its really sad that companies design games to the lowest possible common denominator. I wish some company would take an attitude of 'if we build it, they will come'  and truly try and build virtual world were massively multiple amounts of people have to live and work together. Instead of Diablo clones on one large map.

      but thats just my $.02
