Sure the graphics are not top notch, but hell read through the feature list and watch wahts going on in the video and its awesome.
I still have doubts; the video claims that its out in 2008, and for the third time they are accepting beta applications.
Those worried about population just look at the DF forums; currently 650 people online and going crazy about it. A lot of people are waiting for an MMO that doesnt revolve around the same old questing and item rewards.
Give us territory control, empire building and massive battles and its going to be huge.
I just hope it gets released.
I want an MMO that ticks these boxes, are there any that manage all three?
Can I lead other players to capture enemy held territory, and actually get a benefit from such actions (ie, own resource rich zones, trade routes, etc)?
Can I be a pirate/thief/conman, and actually take players stuff against their will?
Can I become "evil" building a lair, summoning evil NPC minions to terrorise an area, forcing other players to come and stop me?
So are there any fantasy MMOs which tick these boxes, I know that EVE has the first two, but i grew tired of all the numbers.
Will people still get a murderer tag if they are having a battle?
It should always be possible for a new player to kill an experienced one (otherwise you will have experienced players camping newbie areas), but why not solve the problem by having murderer tags apply to all characters on an account?
I simply want a MMO where the whole thing is fun and I get to play with more people than I would on any standard multiplayer game. Not forcing me to do boring quests for hundreds of hours just to get involved in what i call the fun part.
Yes, I want a battlefield style MMO; why? Because i can pick it up for half an hour and still have fun, or i can play it for a year, build an army and claim vast swathes of land.
I also want to build my character, but not simply making myself tougher and do more damage so i can fight enemies that do more damage and are tougher; forcing me to keep doing the same thing for months.
Planetside for me nailed the character progression part, but could have done with more customisation.
I simply do not like the way standard MMORPGs rely on levels to segregate players to avoid lag and slow down the rate that players see all aspects of the game and so keep them playing for longer.
As a whole MMOs need to move away from the RPG level and static quest system, and make content that is player and community driven.
Really it depends how item based your game is.
If items have minimal impact then let the players loot away.
If your game is heavily item based then its a good idea to only let players take the other money, so players have to make sure that they use banks.
Personally i dislike the current rare item based games, and would love to see a game where items are easy to manufacture and easy to lose, but their only real impact is on how you approach situations, much like any current FPS game.
You still need crafting to make the equipment for players to use, but having good equipment is not the goal for everyone.
