Probably next August.

One thing you guys have to realize about Protus is that he's not really a fanboi. He's actually disgruntled because of the shape the game was released in. However, he doesn't blame the developers, rather he blames the fanbois for 'forcing' Funcom to release the game in that state.
He certainly seems to be blaming the developers in his most recent posts.

Companion: Han had Chewy, Luke had R2...blah blah....someone to accompany you. Potential for romance sticks out as something oddly unique
As far as I know, there was never any romance between the aforementioned "companions".
As someone who was bamboozled by Brad, I totally understand where you are coming from. I think the difference between Brad McQuaid and Schillings team, is Brad was all about "the vision", and it turned out that the vision was just some marketing B.S. to pump up those who still held onto the romantic vision of EQ1.
I have much more faith in the 38 Studios team, because most of the participants have proven themselves over and over again. Also Curt doesn't come across as the "visionary demigod" type. At the risk of sounding patronizing or obvious, he seems to be much more of a team player. Instead of leading by the nose, whilst hailing his propheting vision, he is assembling an (pardon the pun) all-star team of developers, who bring with them a wealth of expertise in their respective fields.
Will the game be any good? I suppose that is anyone's guess, at this point. But I believe there is good reason to be optimistic about 38S. I'm as jaded an MMO player as they come, and I told myself that I would never buy into any game hype ever again --but this one has got me. We are still over 2 years away from any release, but I will be following this one closely.
I dunno, maybe I'm just a glutton for punishment.
