I found my favorite "Class" by playing a sandbox game that didn't limit me to one predetermined, cookie-cutter class. Funny how that works out, eh?
The real issue comes down to why are there two inseprable, exclusive factions? Why must there be this stark dichotomy in the first place? Why are the players not themselves allowed to pledge allegience to any number of factions, alliances, brotherhoods, or whatnot, each with their own philosophy and goals? Why are we limited to "Good" versus "Evil", when in many cases neither descriptor actually applies to either?
Also in the same light in many game's current dichotomy, why are your own allies totally immune to all your actions? In some of these games, I often see more griefers on one's own side than of the "enemy" faction.
Andromedus1, thanks for this thread. You started with a well thought out proposal, and continued (along with many other posters) with thoughtful and insightful discourse. On top of it all, it's an interesting read, with which I can relate.
If I'm going to stare at a pixelated ass for hours on end, I might as well make it a "female" ass.
Here's a way to fix AoC:
Delete the website and forums, burn the servers, and pretend it never existed.
