Latest Blog Entry - WAR open beta, where art thou?

So any day now I'm ready to get started in the Open beta for WAR> It can't be a whole lot longer. Sadly the AoC beta was not enough to hold my interest in any way, and since release the reviews of AoC have been a lot less than stellar. Seems they overshot their load if you know what I mean. The game isn't even playable on a top of the line machine. Guess Incubus will have to wait for his precious 360 version to come out.
As for the rest of the Basement crew. Seems we will be ready to launch into the world of warhammer (teheh) soon enough. For now I will content myself messing around witha lowbie Dranei on Topweasel's server of WoW.

- Funcom deals coup-de-grace to MMORPG's
Although I'm the last person to say the only good measure of a MMORPG is the subscriber statistics, you cannot rule that out of the equation all together. Sadly the things that make great MMORPGS like Neocron (concept not execution) and EVE online (concept and execution) do not make a number 1 or even a number 10 seller. These are two inherently different things as demonstrated by the general selection criteria you have used to define a great MMORPG. The other examples of deplorable pandering to the masses are simply good business, not good games. Someday the people cut back from the major studios will find a way to make a game great without necessarily getting rich while doing it.

- This game is not awesome.
Eye candy can't save a game, not even the Conan IP has enough pretty stuff to overcome the same old boring grind. Thank God, there's no shortage of mmo's.

- Players being hit hard for AoC's bugs
Cheating is cheating, though I'd have to say this early on it's probably not wise to go banning accounts. The game will have more exploitable mechanics. Makes much more sense to keep the exploiting types around to help discover more of them. Either that or I've been watching too much of "The Wire" lately.

They should give a title for AFK champs. Those people that forget how to log off no matter how long they plan to be away.
