    • EQ2 runs fine on most modern systems and ever since they made it large memory aware it runs great on a 64bit OS with 4GB+ ram also.

I used to run it at 1650x1080 with everyone on max without issues, I would turn it down if people were gathering for an epic quest kill in an area I was running around in alot, but otherwise it's a great game.

I used to play it initially at release, being a huge EQ1 fanboi and then left for WoW due to wanting to play with my RL friends. We recently resubscribed and bought the Ruins of Kunark expansion so we'd have all the content released at our fingertips and we were quite happy with most of the changes they had made since we had been away.

I'm a fan of a harsh death penalty. It keeps the idiots in check, and I was somewhat sad they went away with the good old fashioned Corpse Run. But they did make it easier for us to get some levels, so all was well.

I've since then stopped playing it and resubscribed to CoX instead, again with the friends.

But EQ2 is a fine game in it's own right. I'm not a SOE fanboy, or even a SOE hater. Atleast they let us play with whoever you want, unlike the other games that carve a great big line between the big continents.

    • Why should I come back to SWG if it's being Replaced in the near future?
    • What I've never understood is why more MMOG's haven't stolen the two things from SWG that accually worked.

Being the Crafting sphere, and the socializing sphere.

Sure, it requires alot of programming work. But Player crafting should IMO hold a must larger place in a modern MMOG.

Sadly it seems everyone is going the WoW route of Instant gratification. Now people "brag" if they played the same game for more than three months at the "endgame".

I do hope Bioware will be able to take the good things from SWG and improve apon them (Read : So that they work out of the box :P), I'm not keen on Sci-fi, but I enjoyed what time I spent in SWG simply because of the crafting and socializing aspects the game had.

I enjoyed the fact that relations in game ment I always had something to do (I was a Master Swordsman / Master Ranger / points left over spent on finding metal nodes.) and crafting mattered when you went to your local weaponsmith for a new toy.

I miss those things in modern MMOG's, I've tried reactivating my SWG account several times but the NGE killed it for me.

Oh well, there is always hope for the future.

But if Bioware can pull of a SWG Pre-CU with the same focus on socializing and crafting then I'll be hooked.

Even if it will have jedi all over the place (Lets face it, likely it will)

What's with this line of thought about recreating SWG? SWG was a failure by Star Wars standards, it should have had WOW like subscriptions to be conidered a success by Lucasfilm.

SWG Pre-CU was an excellent MMORPG. It had lots of aspects of Roleplaying that todays games don't even shadow. I don't give a rats arse regarding subscribtion amounts. A good game as I see it don't cater to the masses. It doesn't need to be numbed down for everyone to enjoy or to play with piss old hardware. It doesn't need to be SWG, because it had some bad elements as well (Nearly no end game content ect.) but I'm surprised that more up and comming MMOG's don't steal with their arms and legs from the good parts of SWG. Crafting was both essential and wanted in SWG, as was the socializing, unlike todays games that focus on instant gratification and the MEMEMEMEMEMEME111!!!!1111oneone! mentality.

It's a shame the big companies only see subscribtions though, but it's a fact that you don't need 1 mil+ subscribers to be considered a success when making a MMOG. Hell SOE's EverQuest 1 (A game that must have nine or ten years of operation) is likely *still* making money on it's loyal fanbase.

I'm all for a niche game with Pay to Play and much Payed for content. I hope Bioware has to balls to follow their own heart, their track record seems to think so. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

    • General: D&D 4th Edition - Learning from MMOs
    • Also remember that we have Three core books at this time of writing. 4E will keep expanding and the rules makes IMO more sense than those of 3.X.

I like the fact that there's defined roles to fill. One of my pet pieves is when a guy in my group makes some useless charcter that will be extremely overpowered at level 20, but not till then and the rest of the group has to piggy back him most of the way there. Plus, even fighters are useful now :)
