Something for the OP creator to bare in mind.
JGE is a continuation of the 'Jumpgate' storyline/universe.
As such alot of it's content and focus will be exactly that of it's original game, which was a space simulation MMO with mining, trading, PvP and PvE.
Also remember that the original Jumpgate was in beta back before EVE alpha was even created. And by the time EVE started their closed beta Jumpgate had already been at a retail launch stage for about 2 years.
So I think the main question isn't if JGE is using EVE-features rather then being original, and more Is JGE going to acknowledge the faults of it's original and improve itself.
If the Jumpgate community can put up with my crapola the last 7 years and still reply to me reasonably then I really don't see the problem.
What Lobotomist did, was make a thread expecting alot of "OMG! YEAH! GREAT IDEA!!!" and too be instantly accepted. What he got was replys about the fact that JGE is and will be a space simulation game, and not a fantasy MMO with avatar running around.
Rather then accepting this and saying that it might make a good addition later if the focus of the game changed, he proceeded to attack people who doubted the idea about how "JGE will fail unless it adopts my ideas".
Whilst it's true that the Jumpgate community will openly welcome new people and treat them politely, if you give crap and don't pay attention to others, you'll receive 3x more crap and not be listened to yourself ![]()
I'd of agreed that they' learnt their lesson from AA simply by looking at what they did with JGC.... but the more I hear about the plans for JGE and how it will appeal "to everyone", the more I'm expecting JGE to suffer from a launch where theres appeal to dozens of play styles but dumbed down simple short content for each. ![]()
Their already planning to pretty much release two completely differant versions of the game, one with restricted consensual PvP and another with more JGC styled 'open' PvP. Which in itself will make future balancing and new features a major pain in the arse to balance to suit each seperate style.
Which, is what I think was the major flaw with AutoAssault. Netdevil attempted to make a game with a unique equipment generation, unique crafting system and awesome graphics and focused on all 3 at the same time. Because their attention was spread across so many differant areas what they ended up with was a game that was good to look at and had a quirky loot system, but had a half-done crafting system and poor Client-Server handling.
Though I believe most of the flaws have been chalked up officialy to 'To high system specs' ![]()
In responce to AI mining for you..... your kidding right???
Why would a game thats main focus is on players performing the tasks themselves introduce a system where people type a command and sod off for a day or two whilst the game does the job for them?
We have already been told that the mining system in JGE will feature a more 'active' role, where the player will not only have to find asteroids to mine, but then find veins on that asteroid in which to extract ore.
As for Player owned station, the last we heard from Netdevil regarding them, they were still unsure if they should even be included into the game on launch. So it could be that the problem will be a non-issue as player structures simply won't exist.
Does indeed seem that JGE will for the most part, feature a more 'peaceful' restricted PvP system.
But fortunatly for those of us who actually like to interact with other players, rather then pretending other people flying past you are simple NPCs there to cater to your ever "OMG! GIMME CREDITS!" demands, Netdevil have said that there shall be seperate shards available for players which will have a more 'open PvP' feel to them.
Shame that the final solution was one that will divide the community down the middle and promote ganking on the Non-PvP orientated server... but there we go, whats done is done.
