"seemingly public spaces" and "public spaces" are two entirely different things. There are lots of "seemingly public spaces" on the internet, but all of them are run by private corporations or organizations who have every right to stomp all over your freedom of speech rights on their private site. Just like every business has the right to impose a behavior policy on you in their place of business, or have the police forcibly remove you from their property.
I honestly don't know of any US government run site that has a public forum. That is the only forum freedom of speech would likely be protected in...when the government comes into play and hosts a public forum.
Doesn't matter if the server is a foreign country or not...an entirely US based operation can still censor you into the next millennium if they want to. It's all about how they want to be perceived by the public. That's why a lot of companies are extremely loose on what they allow on their sites. They want to appear to the public to be a freedom of speech friendly forum...when in fact they can restrict that any time they want.
Eww....is that bunny hopping I see...please tell me that won't be a dominant part of the game. Please tell me there is some factor that will reduce the ability to bunny hop.
Honestly the more and more I look at this game the less I want to play it. My interest in this game is being replaced by my interest in APB.

Ok.. The background from the timer is taken from the article( the top picture). The article itself is old and worthless which is why I couldn't find the relation. I was looking in the wrong spot. Good find or whatever. I still don't think the timer is for ST:O. Maybe an Easter Egg.
Why would they hype it to compete with their current project? Its surely not a beta anouncement after only a few months. If it is the game hasn't changed much from PE's design.
Beta....lol no. It'll just be the announcement that they are developing it. As of right now there's no official word on who if anyone is developing it. This could just be Cryptic's way of hinting it to start the hype.
Why wouldn't they hype all the projects they are working on? They are in the business to make money...you don't get money unless you generate interest in your product. This is just the start of that.
The two games would be targeting the same general market, MMO's...but they target different niche markets within the larger MMO market. EVE Online and SWG would be direct competitors for STO...among other Sci-fi MMO's. For Champions Online the only direct competitor they have is City of Heroes/Villains as they are the only comic book MMO I know of.
With that magazine shot it pretty much confirms Cryptic is the STO developer or at least are tied to it in some way. That much is clear from the use of the image.
You know...it usually helps to post a link to said video. I'm getting nothing.
People arguing that this type of piracy doesn't cost the game industry money are kidding themselves. If the people playing on the pirate servers weren't playing on the pirate servers they'd either be playing on the official NCSoft servers...or they'd be playing another game. At some point a good chunk of the people playing on the pirate servers would be paying money to a legitimate company...so someone is losing money from at least a portion of the people playing on the free servers. Assuming all of them would eventually pay money is going a bit far I think as a smaller portion of the people playing on the servers are no doubt just cheap and wouldn't pay no matter what. But they have the right to make that claim...it is their IP after all.
Good luck to NCSoft...if you like the game pay for it...if not don't play it...simple as that.
How do you feel about advertising inside games?
