Yeah I lost interest in Ryzom also.....It seemed to be alot more fun the first week than it did the next couple weeks....After awhile it felt like all I did was log on and go dig....I didnt like fighting much as all I ever found were basically worthless mats.......I also didnt like that other players made my gear and that the economy was so bad.......The community is solid and probably keeps some players there longer than they would normally stay but overall it just gets old after awhile......I know alot of people rip the first island but personaally I had alot more fun there than I did on the mainland.
It really depends on the game as to whether the "killing stuff" is fun......If you are rewarded for killing mobs and going after more difficult mobs then yes I am in line....If its like LoTRO where you dont get diddly for killing anything then I have little interest........
For me it would not be worth it....I have only played one MMO more than a year (EQ1 for 5 years) and really nowadays there are just too many others out there to stick with just one game.......I subbed for 6 months in LoTRO and barely made it for 2 before I was totally bored...I havent logged in for 2 months and my sub doesnt end till December......To me LoTRO is an OK game but nothing special......It is not a game I could see myself playing in say 5 years.......
Ive played about a dozen different F2Ps and right now Id go with Atlantica......Its a fresh change from the WoW clones and its different enough to keep it interesting......Ryzom and Last Chaos are Ok also but both are a little too much grind for me........Guild Wars didnt thrill me much and I dont consider it free because you have to buy the game and expansions........
I think the thing that always snapped me about grouping in WOW was that too many people were rolling on gear they couldnt use.....Id be playing a paladin and a mage would roll on a plate helm I was trying to get....Then Id hear the "oh well I need the money" or "Im an enchanter and have jsut as much right to it as those who can wear it blah blah blah"........The only time grouping ever worked well for me was in Everquest where I knew alot of the players and often it was no drop and did them no good anyway....... WOW was easily the worst game I ever played for grouping though as far as the quality of the players that I grouped with.......
