I just used the search tool for Bria at 2:45pm there were 280 players found, note also that 5 of the professions had more than 32 players and the system does not count the "overflow". Also none of the players that are on /anon show as well. Most likely there are in excess of 400+ players truly online on that one server. Bria is also noted as "medium" population on the launch screen, as were 5 other servers.
So in answer to your question a healthy server would have hundreds of players on line.
That may sound impressive to you Gutboy but you really gotta think about this for a min.
If there were 400 people for those 5 servers thats only 2000 people. Thats approximately what I would think is a little less then a full server!
Now consider that there are 25 servers - 20 with much less then 400 players.
At 6:00 PM Eastern time, there were 68 players on Sunrunner, 74 on Tarquinas, and 54 on Naritus. Flurry and Bria had more than 32 players of a specific faction or class that I couldn't get an accurate count. Even Bria and Flurry had less than 32 players of certian classes, which is pathetic, but a bit less so than the servers that have slightly more than twice the number of players that the search tool cuts off at (32).
SWG would be an excelent post-apocalyptic game, if the condemed houses looked run down. At best, the current state of SWG can be described as sad.
I think you need to read some guides on how to use the search tool. Right now at 4:50am EST on Chilastra there are 145 people showing on the search tool. Chilastra is showing on a "Light" load.
Do you have a guide on using the search tool on your "Welcome back to the game" sticky in this forum?
If not, you should.
Also, please provide screenies for the 145 people you found on your search. I am on Bria, which I KNOW has a higher population than Chilastra, and I only found 18 players using the search tool, at prime time btw...

Wow, a company is trying to make money .... whould'a thunk it.
Wow a company is trying to make money by selling content that used to be free with the standard monthly subscription. Who can see anything wrong with that.....
It is only a short path until you have to pay $ for character respecs, special guns, new ships, etc. Your indifference is what allows this sort of thing to happen. I hope to not hear you whining in a few years when if finally realize it affects you directly.
What content that "used to be free with the standard monthly subscription" is now being sold for extra money?
Combat enhancing buffs (used to buy from other players with ingame money) and new vehicles (content patches used to include new vehicle schematics). Now you pay real cash for these things, on top of the subscription fee. Actually it's worse than that because you pay real cash only for a random chance to get these things.
Actually it is worse, because the boosterpacks work like a lottery. You cant simply buy the ingame items from SOE, but have to buy boosterpacks, hope it contains such an ingame item. People still do it though, just check the official trade forums (SWG and SOE strategy).
someforumguy is absolutely correct. I recently sent an email to the State of Texas Lottery Commission informing them of what $OE is doing with this TCG cash grab.
Their reply basically stated that if the TCG indeed functions the way I described to them (which I sent them a C&P of Valara's own Oboard post describing the TCG), they are obliged to publish the odds of "winning" said items or be in violation of State gambling laws.
ArcAngel, you're our resident law expert...
Care to weigh in on this one?

Someone on the Official forums posted this, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FUw007jZ7QQ. It's a bug that they were able to take the AT-ST out of Hoth (this is on TC, remember) but it does show that vehicle combat can exist outside of Hoth. Here's hoping that combat vehicles outside of Hoth do become a reality in the near future :)
So, it appears that an AT-ST is wandering around, shooting people in a very unhothlike environment.
It also appears that you're suggesting this means that SWG could see combat vehicles outside of Hoth, in the near future.
Here's what troubles me about this:
-The dev team said that due to limitations with the ground-game coding, vehicle combat is not possible outside of an instance.
Hoth IS the ground code. Some people here seem to think it's done on the JTL engine, however it's not. Instances don't use a different engine on the ground compared to any other ground area. Obviously they've got around whatever issues they originally had.
-The video is edited, and badly at that. Are we to trust that this is an accurate representation of something that can be added to the ground game, outside an instance, despite what the dev team said?
One doesn't need to be an expert at throwing together fraps clips to show off what they're doing. Also, it's not hard to go and replicate what you see in the video clip. If you have a Vet trial, login to TC, go to Hoth, jump in an AT-ST and click the shuttle to leave the Heroic.
-You're suggesting that vehicle combat outside the Hoth instance is probable regarding development in the near future. This reminds me of Smed's suggestion that guild-controlled star destroyers were being considered, when in actuality they were not.
I think this is covered above. The difference here is that this system is actually in the game.
-Like Smed, your suggestion appears designed to encourage people to subscribe. Some people may read your post, see the video and buy subscription time. They may then never experience vehicle combat outside of the Hoth instance. They will feel they were misled by you in this post, but they won't be able to do anything about it because in your wording, you haven't actually made any development promises. You've merely made suggestions, like Smedley. Also, you post as though you're just a player of the game, and in no way a marketting representative of SOE, so no one can claim that SOE misled them.
I have no responsibilities if such a thing happens or not. I posted to start a discussion on the topic because I thought it was a cool possibility. SOE isn't allowing any discussion of it on the main forums as they consider it an exploit, despite being on TC.
-As someone else mentioned, you can play Battlefront online with StarWars vehicle combat with working collision detection, a user friendly interface and no noticeable bugs. It works well, is guaranteed to have vehicle combat, and does not have a subscription fee.
Sure, but I don't play Battlefront, I play SWG. Having something like it added to the game I currently play is much more attractive then picking up another game that I have no other interest in. Likewise I wouldn't expect someone purely wanting vehicle combat in a game to pickup SWG for it.
I hope that people don't see your post, watch the video, believe that vehicle combat is coming soon to all of SWG (as you suggest) and go out and spend money for this. If they do (their perogative), I hope they aren't dissappointed, but I expect they will be.
I would say something about this kind of marketting further undermining SOE's reputation, but at this point they probably feel they have nothing to lose.
I'm not sure how a post by an individual that has no relation at all to SOE or LA (yes, I've read the rather amusing posts on various forums that I work for SOE ;) ) could be considered marketing. As for people believing that this is something definate that will happen then I'm sorry, but I'm not going to take responsibility for people reading words that weren't written.
Funny stuff.
BTW this is usually what he does to a forum post when he's backed into a corner with no way out...
After reading all the replies, I have decided not to resubscribe.
However, it seems that my account has 30 free days on it, because I re-installed the game and logged in without supplying CC/billing info.
Here's what I did ingame at 8PM CST last night 11/02/08 (sorry, no screenshots):
My toons are on Bria. I logged in with my main (Imperial) and headed to Eisley. When I got there, I saw 4 people in the Starport. As I walked outside the starport, the game froze for a good 15 seconds. I saw what looked to be Halloween decorations, or what's supposed to pass for them in the SW universe. I saw a few toons running around spamming "trick or treat". I think it was for some in-game Halloween thing or something...
Anyway, besides the aforementioned toons, I saw 3 others spamming to sell items, and one spamming to join their guild. So, I headed to the cantina. I saw 5 dancers, I think only one was ATK, the rest were AFK and had the (AFK) tag above them.
Since I heard several people here say the game had some population, I started to run around the city; maybe they were all questing or something. I didn't find but one other toon, CL6, killing swoop gang thugs I think. I went back to the starport and headed for Restuss.
When I arrived in Restuss, I immediately received duel requests from several Rebel players. I guess since I wasn't SF they wanted me to fight anyway. I didn't, but I did as why everyone was standing around and not fighting. One said that there were no Imperials to fight there, another said they were trying to "grind up GCW for buffs", whatever that meant...
I pulled out my jetpack and decided to fly into the city, which made me SF immediately. It was ok, because I didn't see another toon anywhere, just lots of faction NPC's, one cool note was there were lots of Imperial NPC's surrounding a badass-looking Jedi. Emperor's Hand, I think it was called. Anyway, since I was alone I hauled ass outta there.
I went ahead and flew to a player city not too far off instead of going back into Restuss as SF. I shuttled to Narmle, then flew to Bestine to talk to the recruiter to drop SF status. During the 5 minute "paperwork is being pushed through channels" wait, I decided I wanted to find someone to run instances with, so I tried out the group locator tool.
I searched using the parameters "any character, any class" and "instance" and only came up with 4 people listed. I know someone here said the locator tool only shows "players that want to be found", but since I only found 4 with no way to find any more, I gave up on that.
I wasn't sure what else I could do in game at that point, so I ended up logging out with kind of an empty feeling.
I don't know what else to say except that I probably won't be back, even if they said I could play for free forever.

The vast majority of players are in fact adults, there are a very vocal minority that post crap on the main forums though. There are currently 6 to 8 servers that have a very good population and you will not have any trouble finding groups/guilds to join.
I just went through the new Hoth encounter and it was very fun, lots of "oh wow" moments.
My main toon is on Bria.
The last time I was ingame I was on the last 14 day trial they offered, I believe it was for the new heroics that I couldn't find enough people to group for one.
Describe one of the "oh wow" moments if you could, please. Do include screenies if you can.
What is your favorite of EVE's four major factions?
