Yet the average stated age of the people doing the all-capped titles is mid thirties.

I dunno. . . my playstyle tends to be one week hardcore, one month casual, one week hardcore, etc. The idea of being someone else's ensign instead of my own captain would never work for me. I recognize you stressed the word "option," but still. You want them to address your demands, but please recognize the demands of making a marketable game. There's a compromise in here, and in that compromise you might actually find a fun product.

Personally, I'd rather pilot a shuttle craft than man your engineering station, and not only would most players agree, but a game that's one player = one ship is a lot easier/ cheaper to code.

Also, I'm the exact same age as you, OP, and it seems most of the people posting here are in the same general range. Since the STO forum has been reopened on this site, I've seen very little of what you might call maturity.

    • Have you ever played an MMO whilst drunk?
    • In City of Heroes, I spent several days trying out different characters on different servers. I finally settled on the server Pinnacle. Over the first few weeks, people kept referring to Pinnacle's "reputation," but nobody would tell me what it actually was. I had to do a forum search to figure out that Pinnacle was the drunken server, and it somehow made sense that Pinnacle was where my internet connection felt the most stable.

This combined with my sig will make me look like a total lush. It isn't about getting drunk while playing/ posting in an mmo forum. It's about doing those things during the hours when one is accostomed to drinking.

    • Why wouldn't you want a player driven "sandbox"
    • I was in the first group of beta testers for the game Seed, which billed itself as the ultimate non-combat sandbox game. Instead of combat, we had to do repairs all day long (click, click, click, click), and all the political/ social aspects came to nothing. The game launched, now it's gone, and you've probably never even heard of it.

I would love to have more complex character development options in an MMO; I would love to see developers get more creative in every aspect of mmo design; and I enjoyed the economy in EVE more than I enjoyed the combat. But I only log in to Second Life, the only true sandbox game, about twice a year, when someone I knew from college or graduate school e-mails to tell me he's just discovered the game and I must check out his new dildo store.

A t the end of the day, I mostly just want to unwind when I play a game, and in an MMO that usually means killing things. Going to committe meetings and dealing with interpersonal politics. . . that's what I do at work.

If everything still looks fine, then.... I wouldn't be surprised -- w/ you having such signature:

Har! I've never had a problem viewing MrBloodworth's posts. Is it my browser? Is it a setting in my mmorpg profile? I don't think it' s the beer I had with dinner.

But seriously: What's with all the threads reviving stuff that happened in June?

Edit: Also, Protus and Avery both spell better than Bloodworth.
