but but.. if you discount WOW, and AOC, and Lineage 1 and 2 and anyone from Europe.. or anyone from Asia.... then.. isn't warhammer the fastest??
Yes it's damn fast. They're doing very well and I expect they'll continue to do so. Unlike some games that burned out like a defective light bulb in a week or two I expect War's numbers to contine to go up.
If your going by western markets and game launches, not expansions. Then it sums up to:
1. Age of Conan
2. Warhammer
3. World of Warcraft(although this could be wrong as I couldn't find any numbers on games like Tabula Rasa or POTBS).
And before anyone says anything, even crappy games sell fast. So this is not an indication if the game is good. Only that it has received alot of hype. And that hype has turned over to people purchasing the game at launch to see what the hype is about. Better indicators are after the first free month is up and people re-sub.
That actually is wrong. It has to go like this
1. Warhammer
2. Age of Conan
3. World of Warcraft (NA release, because they did not release world wide at the same time).
I did a homework on this and will just re-post what I have in other topic:
Shipped to retailer:
AoC: 1 million after 1.5 months (They did not ship 1 millions initially, only about 800K)
WAR: 1.5 million initially
Box bought by customer:
First week:
AoC: 400K
WAR: 500K
WoW: 350K
After that
AoC: 700k - announced Jun 30, (AoC released May 23) link here
WAR: 750K - announced Oct 10 (WAR released Sep 18)
WoW: 600K - announce Jan 10 2005
Subscriber:
AoC: 415K ( Q2 report although people have been fighting whether it's Jun 30 number or Aug 15 number)
WAR: UNKNOWN
WoW: Beat the crap out of both WAR and AoC ![]()
I should have named the topic and open RvR improvement as well, since they boost exp in open RvR by 50%.

To answer to your question, err hem, Mr. Mark Jacobs
On some servers, it wasn't but on others it was. So, we decided just to apply them to everybody instead of trying to tweak individual servers. Our intention was never, is never to make it a grind to get to level 40 and we thought we had enough quests, scenarios and open RvR action to make it easy for everybody to do so. Unfortunately, for too many servers, it was a little slower than we wanted and on the lowest pop servers, it was much harder than we wanted it to be. So, extra exp for everybody! happy We'd rather be a bit more generous rather than stingy when it comes to the enjoyment of our players.
Mark
Folks,
As part of our ongoing effort to tweak Warhammer Online based on player play patterns, we are making some adjustments to the rate and manner of experience gain in certain parts of the game. We continually analyze the data from our in-game metrics tool and as a result, we have made some changes to WAR. These changes will ensure that you will see a noticeable improvement to the rate at which you gain experience in tiers 3 and 4.
We are currently in the planning stages for our next phase of experience enhancements, so expect more on this subject soon. In the meantime, we know these adjustments will make for an enhanced game experience in the later tiers as well as providing additional incentive for people to engage in open RvR action. Again, please keep in mind that these changes are only the first step and we have some additional changes/improvements to open RvR that we can talk about next week.
Quest Experience Rewards
• We have revised the experience awarded for completing quests in chapters 10 through 22.
New Repeatable Quests
• We have added new repeatable PvE quests to all tier 3 chapters (chapters 10 through 14).
• The new quests offered in chapters 10 and 11 may be completed twice each.
• The new quests offered in chapters 12 and 13 may be completed three times each.
• The new quests offered in chapter 14 may be completed four times each.
Skirmish RvR Experience
• The experience earned for killing an enemy player in an RvR lake will be increased by +50%.
Again, this is only the first step, there will be more next week. Also, please keep in mind that on the lower pop servers, leveling time was slower do to the less frequent popping of scenarios and open RvR. These changes will help alleviate that and make it easier on the high pop servers as well so people on those servers, enjoy the bonus!
As I've said from the beginning, we have great tools in place to measure this stuff but it does take time to go through all the data. We will not overreact as we have done in the past but nor will we wait forever before taking action. I hope the steps we've taken today and those we will continue to take over the lifetime of WAR will show our dedication to making this game a fun and enjoyable experience for everybody.
Mark

Looks like this already went in as hot fix.

Did you have to create an account to play the headstart? Yes. He didn't say subscribers, he didn't say people playing.. he said "accounts created"
if you don't think Mythic is semi-deceptive.. why did they announce " Warhammer breaks pre-order records" and then later say it was for EA games only. If a company does something like that, they certainly aren't going to remove something from a hype number like 'accounts created'. It's the same way they use the term 'record breaking' without every saying what record was broke.
You try to nitpick but you obivously don't understand or intentionally misunderstand the annoucement. They announce Warhammer break the pre-order record of the company. Meaning this is the PC game with the most pre-order in EA 26 years history. It's the company record, not the whole industry. But if you know how god damn big EA is, that's pretty impressive. Now, the part of the annoucement where they said it was the fastest selling MMO of all time, now that's is for the whole industry, not just EA.
