I have been asking myself the same question. It would seem that they would be better off being what we like to calll honest, and admit that they have some really big issues with everything really from the engine, graphic, content, balance and you name it.
What strikes me reading the interviews with that Gaute character is that they seem to be in total denial. A bit like that Iraqi minister that kinda took it to another dimension. Reading Gautes interviews it sounds like AoC is THE game of the milennia, flawless and well, just simply perfect.
Everytime Gaute is in a interview it must be like being slapped in the face for the poor people still paying for that game. I really think that guy needs to get his head examined tbh. Being so removed from the real world like he is.
I get a feeling they hired in some kind of communication "expert" that has given them some extremely bad advice on how to.."communicate" with the media and their players. "Bad advisors" we say in Norway, gimmicking one of our old princesses talking about the younger generation. It kinda fits in here.
Same here. tried Aoc, Gave up and Started Lotro. Am having a blast! :P
Im Nother, on Snowbourn :P

Funcom development/QA most likely simply "ran out of time" and were forced into a position of releasing the best product that they could on the date they had committed to the industry, publishers, etc. Something similar happened to Sigil/SOE when they took Vanguard live... it's not that the developers/QA didn't realize the thing wasn't ready, but they were forced to release something much to their own chagrin.
Same thing happened to Tabula Rasa which was released at least 6 months too early. Same for Dark and Light which was released about 50 years too early (I wish I was kidding). Same for Pirates of the Burning Sea, which was released about 6 months too early. The list goes on. The last game that I can recall that was released when it was ready was LoTRO, and that would have had serious content issues if the devs wheren't so quick at adding additional content and zones on a regular basis (and it still doesn't have enough solo content to level all the way without grinding).
I don't like this trend and I refuse to support it with my hard earned cash. So from now on I'm waiting until 6 months after a game is released before I check it out (and only if they have a free trial).
I agree. We should all just do this. Never buy a game before we got a free trial. And when they ask us why, we just point at AoC. Ive never felt that ripped off before.
What aspect of MMORPG's are you more into?
