All I want is to hear from an actual player that has tested, played or whatever with this game.......Come on it has been more then 3 or 4 years since this has been announced and yet no one seems to know anyone who blah blah blah..........
The videos are not staged. There are plenty of people beta testing, they are just respecting the NDA. Trust me..... ;)
Originally posted by SatariousEither that, or you just didn't give the game a shot (as in, you didn't play it beyond level 20). Somehow I think that's the case for you since you seem to be prejudging the game a little prematurely. If you were expecting revolutionary graphics, then you just made a fool of yourself. Because Mythic never claimed that the game would have revolutionary graphics on par with AoC (and thank god for that since Funcom's game tend to be all eye candy, no substance). It has ALWAYS been the gameplay. What this essentially comes down to is: Graphics whores vs. Gameplay enthusiasts.
Let me say right away, you are correct - I didn't play past level 20. But why should I? If I don't like that game up to level 20, why on Earth would I expect to like it after level 20? Levels 0-20 are also part of the game, and should be engaging, fun and representative (at least in some sense) of post level 20 gameplay. The "you didn't give it a fair shot" argument is not a valid position.
As for graphics, the poor graphics did contribute to my dislike somewhat, though it was not the deciding factor. The graphics are not great but also are not too bad. You must admit though that the graphics are worse than LotRO, which is now over a year old. And the problem with AoC is not lack of gameplay (which in my opinion was quite good) but a lack of content.
Darkfall sounds like the sort of thing you are after. Should be going into beta soon.
For me, this game proves that there is no such thing as a good or a bad game. There are just different tastes. I hated the game. Despite getting pumped up on the hype, getting into the beta, and genuinely trying to like the game, I found that pretty quickly I was avoiding playing it. Just not my cup of tea.
I would have concluded that my experience means that the game is crap, but there are so many people who seem to be enjoying it that this would be an empty statement. I am reminded of my dear old mum being annoyed at adverts on the TV, and me pointing out that she really isn't the target audience for condoms and ipods. I just have to accept that I am not WAR's target audience and move on.
