I'm really curious how Grouping works in this game. Not the hiring mercenaries bit, but teaming up with other player-controlled characters.
*Edit*
Yeah, the mass wipe threat sounds pretty vile. Anyone who would so openly jerk around their own player-base is not the sort of company I would willingly give my money to. Even playing the game right now is up in the air. I generally tend to only judge a game on it's own marrets, and occasionally it's community, but DAMN.
I wonder if the new Animal Crossing counts in a technical sense...
In any case, yes, a Wii MMO could be pretty neat. The problem is with Nintendo though. They're lagging a bit behind on the whole 'Internet' thing. On top of that, they have it set in stone, more or less, that every game has to be fairly simple, so that casual players might like it. I'm not sure that a good MMO and the word 'simple' go hand and hand. It is possibly to work around all of this, though, if the game makers are creative enough.
There's something really uncomfortable about DC Online being made by SOE. Sure, from what I've seen it looks fan-flipping-tastic, and is basically the wet dream of any comic book fan. But with SOE behind it, there's just this huge, looming cloud of unease over the whole thing, like I'm waiting for the very instant that they'll say or do something that will screw it up.

If you're looking to make a game, I'm not sure if it's ever been done specifically, but an MMORPG that plays similarly to the old top-down Legend of Zelda games could be pretty amazing. Particularly with a ton of different types of weapons and rather simplistic, action-oriented gameplay.
Another idea, and this too may have been done before, but this idea calls for the combination of classes in a class-based game. At the game's outset, players can choose to just play a "true" class, like your Knight or Mage or Rogue, or mix them up and get the results of both classes. Rogues and Mages could be combined into a shapeshifter. Rogues and Clerics could be put together to form... Blade? And a Water Mage with a Cleric would result in something that everyone would call a Holy Diver. This, of course, would get a whole lot stranger if you have more varied classes at the outset. Viking/Cowboy anyone?
For that matter, a game with a class system based on various famous archtypes from our own world history (and maybe some mythical ones too). Ninjas, Pirates, Vikings, Knights, Cowboys, Amazons, Lumberjacks, French Chefs, Muay Thai fighters, Braves, Spartans, Voodoo Priests, Bellydancers, and whatever else can get drummed up. For some reason, picturing a team made up of a Knight, a Lumberjack, a French Chef, and a Cowboy seems like it would be incredibly entertaining.
Why not just get rid of the classes, and give players lots of skills to choose from?
Some people prefer skills, some people would rather have defined classes (I personally like skills myself, and find classes a bit constricting). This is a suggestion for those that would rather go the class-based route.
