Pre-AOS for me.
I think they messed with a working formula when they brought out the new skills and diferent magical properties of metals and armor. Then the loot from Doom. Ugghhhh
Its funny how happy I was with just the simple things. I always wanted to have a big house and got an 18*18 when AoS came out but its gone after I wound up not enjoying the game anymore and quitting. I'd gladly live out of the Inns and friends houses again for pre-AOS.

If only I could play pre-AoS again.

For me UO really changed for the worse when AOS hit, which took the game in a direction that made it Ultima in name only. I really didn't like the new stats on all the items and the colour cons. I much preferred the way weapons and armour worked before AOS. With the Power or Vanquishing etc. As UO moved further and further away from the perfect Britannia medieval simulation that it was, the less I started to enjoy logging in to play until it was time to say goodbye.
That's exactly what did it for me, as well. If they had simply continued adding content rather than go with the radical changes that came with AOS, I'd almost certainly still be playing it. But instead I gave it over half a year afterwards until my yearly subs ran out, then was glad I was leaving when I saw what the next expansion was including with the ninjas, etc.
It completely lost what made the game immersive for me when the publish that prepared for AOS hit. If they had made a 'classic server' that kept the old systems I would have switched to that.
Double quote pyramid for emphasis.
