I can say with 100% accuracy that Darkfall is better now, than it will ever be in the future. Once it sees the light of day, SOMETHING will dissapoint SOMEONE.
Why do people always want to cancel free accounts? The only real thing you achieve is preventing youself from using it again. Do people really lack that much self control?
Frogster is not a big publisher. They are not able to deal with this title right now. Only time will tell if they are capable of dealing with a big title. They bought this game in English and German, with the hopes of selling off the English rights, to pay for the german version. Now that this hasnt happened, they are stuck with a big game, that they cant support, without spending a lot of money on....
It will be interesting to see how they recover from this, as they have to deal with TCOS soon as well (even though they offloaded the english version to Acclaim, and in doing so go the german ver for free).
The F2P model is friendlier to the masses... and as such it has a greater appeal to everyone (7 to 70 as stated in the article). If everyone who visits this site, never plays a F2P game, they will still be huge hits.... because they appeal to a larger market.
WoW could have (and now Blizzard states, should have) been F2P in Asia. This wouldnt have made the game and worst, it just would have given it greater breadth, and in doing so, made them a lot more money.
F2P and P2P are just ways to monitize a game. Neither is 'better' they are just different, and have different strenghts. Right now F2P is the 'hot' new thing, but in a few years it will be old hat, and games will be one or the other, dependant on what is best for them, and the market they are targetted for.
Life is short, things change, get over it.
The four types of gamers:
1. Achievers - they want to win, kick everyone's ass, be seen as the best
2. Explorers - they're modeling the system, they tinker with it's boundaries, winning is secondary to being the most knowledgeable
3. Socializers - they're earning administrative privileges, they run the system, they help newbies get up to speed, etc.
4. Spoilers - they're the class clowns. They're here to, as we used to say in my college co-op, fuck shit up.
Spoilers are drawn to open PvP. The fact that Darkfall allows them to 'thrive' will mean that the game has higher than the normal %.
