While there are suggestions that run along those lines, no one is asking for a pure sandbox, where the player has absolute control over everything.
It seems most are just really looking for control of their character and to not be forced down a path in a game that they really have no interest in doing. Ex; forced to go into 20hour dungeons in order to get an item, instead people are asking for the ability to actually just purely be a crafter, or at least have crafting be a worthwhile expense.
When you can have such personal touches to a game such as player owned housing, or the ability to decorate your house/ship (whichever you live on), or the ability to spend hours upon hours simply crafting because its enjoyable; that is a game that you will not leave anytime soon. Not because its "Pre-NGE" shit, but because it allows you to get so much more involved in the game on almost a personal level.
I'm curious as to what are the top 5 things people would like to see when this game finally goes live.
For those of you thinking this is a perfect place to rant about hows its not pre-cu SWG, go somewhere else. It's not that I don't have any love for you, its just that this isn't the topic for it. This is about a NEW game.
1. Player Housing
2. Player Owned Shops; NO Auction House
3. POB Ships and Vehicles
4. In depth character creation system
5. True personalized character development (no cookie-cutter shit)
-and for good measure, scaled weapons that are larger then your hands
I do find it hard to believe when i hear "we dont know" or "we can't quite say yet" when a game has been in the works since 2005... I was really hoping to hear about space combat and some of the designs they had for that, particularly POB ships... and maybe, dare i say, capital ships?
The one thing I worry about the most however is a topic they didn't at all touch on... what will the end-game be like?
Will we see people just starting constant alts? Will it center around raids, or pvp?
And companions, how do they factor in to the end-game content? Will they be like a backup for people not showing up? or will they actually take up spots in a group?
On an unrelated note: What the hell is up with having a romantic interest in your companion??!! ITS AN MMO FOR A REASON!! My god, you want a love interest, start with the marriages again like in SWG. Those were wicked cool AND there was a real person playing the other character.
I've always enjoyed a less cartoony character model then what they're currently going for, but I'll take the "wait and see" approach.
Its not that I want to defend them for doing what they're doing, but in truth, it seems like the common place a lot of graphics are heading in the gaming industry. Who knows? Maybe its just easier to work with models and textures that are a bit more exaggerated and slightly larger then to stay in the confines of what we've traditionally seen.
The shots of the buildings and droids looked nice enough, so who knows, maybe it will all pan out in the end... then again, it may not.
Honestly... I'm disappointed its not a sandbox, but at the other end of things, its a new MMO.
The people still bitching for the pre-NGE experience need to realize that this is a whole new MMO and it should be given a fair try for what it is, not some game trying to be the old SWG.
How many players does an MMO need to be considered a success in today's market?
