When is someone going to get off their rear and make something other than fantasy or sci fi MMO's ? We get it, orcs are mean and gnomes are cute but enough already !
There are soooooooo many incredible themes out there that an MMO would do well in.
- How about a Horror themed MMO where you had classes like vampire, werewolf, zombie, etc and had an underworld to live in.
- How about a Western themed MMO, make it set in the gold rush days of the 1850's.
- How about an MMO set in the Harry Potter universe (ducks head for the coming hate flames) ? Yes Im an adult but Id love to play a wizard in that environment.
- How about a post-appocolyptic world MMO, yes I know Fallen Earth is in development but Id like to see a major studio do something with this theme.
- How about a simulated world MMO, something grand and amazing ! No sim city wasnt large enough. Second Life looks awful. I'd like to see LOTR style beautiful graphics for a sandbox virtual world setting.
- How about a sport themed MMO ? Wouldnt it be cool if you could join a football team online and play a position with your friends on that team ? Join a league and play for the title !
- How about an MMO set in the distant past like ancient rome or egypt ? One company tried it with Roma Victor but was an awful attempt. Your guild could build a pyramid or another ancient wonder of the world. Develop aquaduct systems, fight off invading hordes, etc.
Seems like there are just an endless supply of amazing opportunities for themes available. Yet we continue to get the same old lame settings.
I think there is also a Western MMO that is in development, but no big named company.
Simulated world is ehh for me. There is sim-life and real life a bunch of others that tried it and did it poorly. There is also a MMO in the past other than Roman Victor if you look at the list. All aren't good.
The SG MMO is sci-fi but it has present day elements and add some stuff that other sci-fi MMOs don't have. The WOD mmo looks good and has a solid background, but it will be a while.
I would like to see a Half-life MMO or maybe even a Fallout MMO. Both are great franchises with great storylines.
There are way too many fantasy MMOs right now.
Originally posted by glordLook on the AOC MB you will find some ways to avoid ganking. Also you don't have to go to white sands. Try to do as many city and other quests first.
I've been ganked repeatedly already. One time I was killed out of the blue, and than some asscrack killed me when I respawned. The whole white sands is a runescape wilderness.
The Ganking will calm down as players get bored and as AOC put in some new rules to fix it. That is what comes with the territory. You have people who LOVE PVP and whine about it on the MB then when games add it they gank like there is no tomorrow until there is no one else to gank and they get bored looking for the next game.
POTBS has a similar problem with PVP and ganking. People like PVP, few like to be killed by groups of high level characters after respawning.

My comp is a 2.4ghz frankenstein machine, with bits added to it over the years....no chance of playing AOC! Can't afford a fresh new comp either.
Apperently WARs graphic engine is not for 2003 PCs, and will demand some hardware. I hear 2 GB memory is recommended (minimum). So don't get your hopes to high.
Interesting you say this since they have not released the min specs yet and have stated that the beta requires higher end pcs since it is not optimised. This is what the WAR devs have been quoted saying on system requirements thus far: "a high end WOW system will be a low end W.A.R. system". If we look at WoWs recomended requirements for BC they are:
- OS: Windows 2000 (Service Pack 4) or Windows XP (Service Pack 2)
- Processor: Intel Pentium3 800MHz or AMD Athlon 800MHz
- Recommended: 1GB RAM
- Recommended: 64MB VRAM 3D graphics processor with Vertex and Pixel Shader capability, such as an NVIDIA GeForce FX 5700 class card or above
- Sound: DirectX-compatible sound card
So that is the information directly from the WAR devs and from the WoW website. WAR is not being designed to require a super computer to use. Please do not post misinformation or assumptions.
Cheers!
Edit: for clarity
If you played WOW you would realize that 2 GB minium are required for very smooth play even on medium levels.
I think min requirements for WOW will be a slightly better graphics card, maybe a GT 7800 or higher along with 2 GBs of RAM and a 5 year old processor, maybe a duel or better. 2.2 GHZ might be fine since its really the RAM and graphics card that will take most of it.
If you think a 7000 or lower Nividia graphics card with 1 GB of ram and an old processor will run WAR even on basic levels you are kidding yourself.
Do it. Take your old setup and play WOW in towns and in heavily populated areas with all the settings on high. Your FPS will plummet and you will get graphical glithces.
You can buy a top of the line computer for about 1,000 now. If you build it, or have a friend, you can get it for 800 or less. Computers are really not that expensive.
First off its $5. Anyone who complains about $5, especially to the degree some are complaining about, need to get a life. If you can't afford $5 than you shouldn't be playing a game, its as simple as that. I pay what around $4 for gas, it probably cost as much money in gas (for your parents) as it did to go down and reserve your copy.
As for the $5 you pay it when you download the game. Reserving early access etc through another vendor probably means, like others have said, that you actually paid THEM and not the money to download.
Third it says terms and conditions. It is not false advertising because if you actually did ANY research or followed ANY directions you would know that it wasn't promised. You had the possibility of playing early that is it.
Fourth if you had a problem don't whine about it on the MB. Contact Funcom and contact the vendor you bought it from. If they don't resolve it try to call them. E-mail them AND call them BEFORE posting another whining thread about how you were too stupid to register early and unable to realize that it might be limited.
Finally the rating for Conan is Mature which means "MATURE
Titles rated M (Mature) have content that may be suitable for persons ages 17 and older. Titles in this category may contain intense violence, blood and gore, sexual content and/or strong language."
I bet that over half the people complaining about their $5 are under the age of 17 (and if your older than 17 than stop acting like a little KID). When you agree to buy the game you are saying your old enough to play. In fact sir it is you who is committing fraud against Funcom and AOC. I am expecting an apology from you as soon as your parents allow you to logon.
Hello Kitty Online won't kill WOW, nothing will. It will however take many of the players away, maybe reducing the population by up to 50% as the flood of kiddies playing WOW go to Hello Kitty Online.
