looky here squall, for u to say counter strike is not skill base then u must be retarded or delusional and all the game tournments out there are wrong and its all luck.. idiot
By insulting people with nothing to back it up just makes you loose credibility, and if you would not mind, please quote me where i said CS does not require skill.
and mmo's want to play like console game meaning: hit u get knocked backed combo, evade blocking... like zelda and the like but its a lag issue..KNocked backed combo, evade and blocking are in GW, just not real time due to lag and latency issues.
i guess im not talkin too much about skill more about defending.
im not a big fan of taking turns hiting till one dies..... like most mmo's perhaps your experience remains in the turotial where you do indeed hit and bash till creature dies, but once you go to PvP or later Dungeons, its not about hitting only, its about positionning, DoT's, debuffs, criple, and may the smarter man(or woman) win.
so the skill in this game is basically stoping someons animation with a spell.... and u only have 8 at a time, and can't change during battle? how the hell u suppose to know what to choose if u dont know what they got? you suposed to choose a skill/spell that complements your other 7 AND your other 8 of 7 other teammates to make a killer team build in. if played right any build you make can win you a battle, but it has to be flawless execution.
i can understand how 2 range fighters can use some kinda skill... what about the melee classes if they went toe to toe? how is skill invloved in that? 2 meley classes will not go toe to toe without backup from a support or defefse. what you do not get also is that you will never or rarely be in a situation where you will end up having a 1v1 out in a random place. PvP is tournament style or ladder style where you plan your build plan your team make sure every one is ready then you press "enter battle.
though my guild has closed recruiting since we all the officers know eachother IRL have something come up (we are students that are on stages for credits all over the world during summer) i cant get you in.
though i would sugest you go to prophecies and at least get yourself to Lion's Arch (district 1) and you will see countless Guild recruits, many are mature/casual and others require more credentials such as fame,
LA is definitivally the heart of guildwars. i would head there to begin with (takes 1 or 2 nights to get there from a lvl 1 character) of form NF you can do 1 quest and get there instantly.

im not convinced, its still in essence, a point and clicker
limiting to 8 skills sucks balls....dont just says it sucks, elaborate on this comment, picking 8 skills out of hundreds of available takes some smartness, some intelligence and some logical reasoning,
dodging range attacks is not that much of player skill. no but if you do not have some sort of dodging or any kind of protection, my ranger would have you pinned down, on fire, dazed and bleeding and would get to me with about 1/4 of your health before you strike your first hit on me. i dont see how this is that competitive... it seems whoever picks the better skills will win, there are no better skills, a elementalist spell that takes 25 energy and does ridiculous amount of energy can be easely interrupted by a mesmer interupt skill that costs 5 energy. but this mesmer would noe be able to widthstand that attack as well as a ranger unless protected by a monk that just cast mark of protection. it just goes to say that ALL skills have an advantage AND a disadvantage. and some skills work really well on a combo. say a mesmer wont be able to interupt a ranger if he uses skills and not spells (depending on what type of mesmer you are), and there are so many different variables that can create an infinite amount of scenarios, so its not the one with the best skills that wins, its the one that uses them best.
stop saying its skill base as if this is a fighting game, now thats serious skill, this is just another rpg sitting duck point and click game, last time i played counterstrike i pointed and clicked... what you are actualyl looking for is a no brainer game that anyone and their grandmother can play, something that does not make you think (oh no only 8 spells, what will i choose what will i choose!!!???)
and another thing, i remember when guild wars first came out and they talked about its competitve aspect of the game, they actually compared the player skills to counter strike skills! which is rediculous....... maybe not in the mindless shoot to kill fashion but in the team planning and communication... perhaps.. but i never EVER hear A-net compare it to CS player skill and i was playing GW since beta weekend 1 this isn't a skill base game people... i guess i have to keep waiting till a perfect game comes out
till a game that plays like a console game shoot antything that moves dont think just head bash, many perfect games out there for you try Unreal tournament CS, or even GTA1-2-3-4 enjoy your kid's games. (though GTA series should not be played by kids under 18 IMO)
i will most definitively get D3 when it comes out, and i will most likely drop any MMO that i am currently playing until the day they stop making level based MMORPGs and go back to the good old system of sandbox skill set. (when i have more time to spend on a computer game im definitively going back to eve.) but for now an easy going lotro is enough to fix my gaming addiction.

i had the same problem. when i played wow, the first 25 lvls got me irritated. i kept dying, takes a long time to kill something, and the exp was slow. but i gotta tell u, when i got to lvl 30+, thats when i acutally had fun. exploring the world, interesting quests, etc. but the best thing about wow is the end-game. end-game is so important because its what keeps people playing. but i get what u mean, the way to lvl 70 or whatever the lvl cap is should be a game itself. which, imo, wow had, idk maybe u were just impatient or intolerant?
Requiem: Bloodymare plays quite a bit like wow and a little less than the "korean grinders" out there. its new but its coming along nicely, in a few months itll be great. but they still lack end-game content.
i come from Ultima online, then SWG (pre-Cu) , then EVE. if you go to WoW after playing those games you will realize that getting to lvl 70 is just time consuming and irritating since its just rince repeat process that you can do without ever adressing word to anyone. (and if you do or try, you get either "go away noob" or no response at all)
Which console would you like to see MMOs released for?
