some points that I used to compare VG vs EQ2 (just my opinion tho) are :
EQ2 :
* more contents and polished - 4 expansions and 4 years old since launch
* have more end game contents - more raiding instances
* better character animation - especially magic animation ( I play mage class)
* performance is not as good as Vanguard - some said you have to tweak it down to run the game (not a big issue for me tho)
* more population - easier to find group, guild , or friends
* mentor system (same as AoC) - easier to group with high level players
* with all contents EQ2 offers I can play and enjoy this game for a year as my last MMORPG
* mature community
* no flying mounts
* shares a house to others
Vanguard :
* less contents and polished - newer game even it's getting better nowdays, if I have the time I should try this game next year, sadly I don't :(
* less end game contents - only 1 or 2 (?) raiding instances
* magic animation is not that good (at least that's what I watched in videos)
* less population - some said something bad about that, probably hard to find group (might be better with free trial on August)
* have better graphic - awesome view and bigger world
* better performance - some said Vanguard runs better in high end PC
* better crafting and unique gameplay - diplomacy
* mature community
* has flying mounts even if it's harder to get
* Iam afraid I can't enjoy all contents if I play this game for only a year as my last MMORPG, probably Vanguard will be much better next year.
* the house isn't shared - everyone has 1 house
well there are more but the point is both vanguard and EQ2 has its good and bad side, I need a game to play for a year as my last MMORPG, which should have more stuff to keep me playing it for a year (ex. raiding, grouping, even ppl to chat with) and I think Everquest 2 offers more than Vanguard does.
so after thinking really hard for 2 days, I've decided to play Everquest 2 ![]()
thanks alot everyone to help me so far in this board, you guys are really nice people ![]()
cheers
hey everyone, Iam looking for a new MMORPG (new here doesn't mean brand new released title)...
Iam playing AoC atm, I've played WoW and LotRO. After reading some info, Iam interested in both Vanguard and EQ2.
the problem is I can't decide which one I will play (I can't play both since iam still playing AoC).
I never play Vanguard, EQ, and EQ2 before. So as a new player for both titles, which one is best for me ?
my criteria is :
* has end game raiding / grouping contents
* quests
* solo and casual friendly
* crafting
* PvP (not a pvp based game ex. AoC / WAR, but PvP battle ground is fine)
thanks in advance
EQ2 is 'a complete' MMORPG so far I read, it's probably too complicated for a newb like me, Vanguard is newer one, has EQ feel on it, better graphic (?) then EQ2.
jeez I can't decide which one I should pick, VG or EQ2 (I wish I could play both) ![]()

Eve Online. You can train skills while offline so you don't have to play so much. it also has a lengthy trial that will let you get used to the game. At least try it out.
oh I forgot to mention, Iam looking for a fantasy MMORPG, so I skip EVE. Thanks anyway

hey guys, I read there are so many expansions (4 ?) EQ2 has, should I buy all of them to enjoy the game or I can just buy the last expansion ? do I still need the first game client ?
for example (wow as my first MMORPG with expansion) : you can buy regular WoW to play the game, but minus new races, lv cap to 60, and old zone Azeroth. You have to buy The burning crusade expansion for 70 lv cap, new races, new crafting, and new zones etc
how does Expansion work in EQ2 ?
Iam playing AoC atm (lv 71 Demonologist), I decided to play only 1 MMORPG for the last time, but I can't choose which game it is.
I never play EQ2 and Vanguard. Which is better overall, EQ2 or Vanguard ?
thanks in advance
Hey Spellcore.
Having played both EQ2 and VG, EQ2 definitely is a better choice for numerous reasons. It's loaded with more content, has much more depth, it's much more polished, more population, and the game is just alot more fun to play.
You only need to purchase the latest expansion, "Rise of Kunark" which includes all the previous expansions in one bundle.
Now, keep in mind both EQ2 and VG play a bit differently than WoW and AoC. Both of those games are very easy to level up. Eq2 actually makes you work a little bit to progress through the game. Of course you can solo to 20 fairly easy, but once u hit 20, doing quests and group dungeon runs are alot more rewarding, loaded with adventure, and the experience flows much better than soloing. Basically what I'm trying to say is, EQ2 and even VG are more of a grouping based MMORPG, whereas AoC and WoW doesn't really require you to group much, less even with AoC.
Hope i answered your questions.
thanks for your reply oakthornn :D
Yeah I was really interested in EQ2 and VG after played WoW and LotRO for a while, tho I found AoC as a newer game to test out first. But now I think I will give VG or EQ2 a shot.
am I too late to play EQ2 (since it's been released for 3-4 years) compared to VG (newer one, 2007) ?
oh btw I might post in a wrong thread, Iam not trying to highjack OP's thread. Perhaps we can discuss this in my own thread if you don't mind ? here's the link : http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/187360
Are you still playing (or subscribed to) your first MMO?
