    • Warhammer Online : Age of Reckoning: Hickman Interview Part Two
    • My guild has vent too, but what about PUGs in scenarios etc?

What the heck is he talking about with regard to potential problems that in-game voicechat would introduce?

In LOTRO, which I still play (prepaid life), the in-game voicechat is a GODSEND for PUGs, even if some folks in the group or raid can only listen-in with no mic.

In LOTRO PvP in the Ettenmoors, it was a MUST in the 24-player raids, and toggling it on was required of all participants. The raid leader could usually enforce no-chatty discipline without a problem. It was great.

I really dislike how WAR does not have this feature, and it really gimps your ability to be effective in a PUG!

Also, I got to know people a little better via PUGs because we could actually converse.

I hope they introduce it in the game.

    • I play Order on Sea of Malice.  I find that PQs (like noob zones in general) are already ghost towns, which rattles me a little, since these weeks should be the PEAK server population.  I think at this point, the only way to get over on the last two stages is to spam some announcement in region-wide chat so that all 8-10 people who might be around can show up at the same place instead of stand around in 1's and 2's at individual PQ's.

At least with the Stage system, you can still grind solo to get the points for reward gear in Stage I if you have to (and unless my guild organizes something, I HAVE to).  The reward gear have proven to be the staples of my armament.

Also, I think Mythic's weighted random roll for loot is the least-worst option.  If I show up at a PQ and see that I'm about the lowest level there, with the current system, I at least know I have a CHANCE to get the best prize.    The alternative, where goody bags would already be alotted to the highest levels?  Feh.   Why bother if I don't need the points?

Granted things may indeed be different but has FC earned that trust? Wait until the game is proven to have been improved before you give FC more money for another marketing ploy.

Don't forget the power of free play to lure people into giving another shot down the line.  EQ1, DAoC, and even the stillborn AutoAssault rolled out free play by activating all unpaid/suspended accounts in order to give disgruntled or otherwise lapsed subscribers a chance to come back in and see the changes at no cost.

Once new guy comes in and makes some serious changes, FunCom would be stupid not to do this, considering all the players like me who let their subscriptions lapse.  Few may pony up $15 to check out the changes down the line, but a week or two of  play at no financial risk to the player could bring back many more..

I'm thinking of all those level 80 toons in limbo who would suddenly have something to do in the game...

    • What is the scope of PvP in WAR?
    • Is WAR going to be like AoC, where there are

      1)whole-world PvP servers versus

      2) PvP-specific zones like in servers like DAoC, where each side has a protected PvE-only area with certain zones that are contested like the Frontiers?

If they're featuring game-world-wide PvP, is there some mechanism in place to deter ganking and griefing?

I'm looking for a play experience where I can PvE without incident to explore content, and PvP only when I feel like it by gonig to that area-- not when it's foisted on me.

      WAR (Warhammer Online)
    • People who like the game don't come to the forums. That's all.

In marketing, there is a rule for word of mouth:

      - For every 10 complaining customers spreading words about how dissatisfied they were with a product, there will be only 1 satisfied customer spreading positive word.

That is one of the basic mottos of marketing. It demonstrates the situation. For all products this can be said, but of course for one particular product the average might be different.

For example, for automobiles the ratio might be Negative : Positive = 5 : 1.

For services, this ratio becomes more and more important. Have a look at movies for example, word of mouth is very important for movies. MMOs are also services, so I can clearly state that "For every 20 (or more) complaining customers spreading the hate (=hateboi), you will have only 1 satisfied customer spreading positive word (=fanboi)."

      Hateboi : Fanboi ~ 20 : 1 for a typical MMO.

However, if the service is really above expectations and there can be only few negative implications, then the Hateboi : Fanboi ratio decreases. For example WoW has an average Hateboi : Fanboi ratio of 5 : 1 probably.

In either case, an INTELLIGENT customer neither listens to the hatebois nor fanbois, but filters this information for his own choices.

Discriminating viewers of forum content also know that some individuals rip on a game (or anything else) as a cheap and faclie way to appear tough and sophisticated.
