I guess it depends what you're comparing it to. Compared to wow? I disagree, wow is far far better, and I don't like it either... and I had 3 accounts in swg and 2 in wow both with long-term characters (maxed architect first on ket, plus a bounty hunter and tailor. In wow I had a rogue with first tier raiding gear and a shadow priest for pvp.)
SWG post-nge is complete crap.

It happened 3 years ago, and for some people it seems like it’s just something they can’t let go of. It’s funny…most seem to forget RL events in the span of months but change their game, and dear gawd…watch out.
Question: Does anyone else think we just need to move on? Seriously. Wow…I just realized something. If people aren’t letting go the NGE, an update to a game…I’m thinking we’ll still be talking about Vanguard for the next 20 years. Of course, that was all SOE’s fault too. Along with WWII, The Great Depression and Anime. Oh yes…I’m coming after YOU, Mr. Smed, for that anime stuff.
Interesting article…it really is, but I’m getting a bit bored of NGE rants.
No….longer…relevant.
D out.
If people "forget RL events in the span of months" they've never had anything in the moderate to serious range occur in their life. When you've invested several months *real life time* in something to have it completely destroyed, you're going to remember it. Especially since you were paying for the privilege of having it destroyed.
I was damn upset when I got laid off from my job, I worked there for 86 real time days in a year (40hrs/week, 52 weeks.) I wasn't paying to goto work even though I enjoyed it. I played galaxies for almost near that amount of time before the nge (~20ish months if i remember right) and I was paying for that. So yes, I do consider it a rather significant thing to have something you've put that quantity of time into.
Figure it this way, your hobby is woodwork... you build a beautiful bed frame for someone in your family. You spend 480 hours (20 days-- 1/4th the time I spent in galaxies) total carving, sanding, polishing, building, and just generally getting it exactly the way you want it and how you know they'd love it. While you goto the store someone comes and saws all the long boards in half, unjoins everything without causing any serious destruction, and randomly changes the carvings into things you hate, basically forcing you to redo almost everything from the ground up... are you going to be angry? Now imagine the person who did it was standing there going "well i don't understand why you're upset... but i wont have any part of fixing it." and then a couple years down the road comes up to you and says, "I don't see why that upset you it was no big deal it was just your hobby."
Gee, I really don't understand why someone would be upset about someone destroying all the time they put into something. Can't understand it. Why oh why would someone be upset about something they dump thousands of hours into being gutted and destroyed... /sarcasm
Smed is such an idiot.

Everyone gets sick of the whining and bullshit coming from both sides of the fence. However, not everyone has to be a dramatic cry baby over it. Thankfully most of the people just do the logical intelligent thing-- ignore the idiots or leave without any drama.
I played a lot of RG's games... this is the first one that ever disappointed me in its depth. It's shallow like most of the other games on the market, I'm quite disappointed in it. I wanted to like it so badly because I'm jonesing for a good sci-fi game... but this isn't it.
To be fair you'd probably get better results (more accurate) if you'd post this in the pub instead of the conan forums.
Are you still playing (or subscribed to) your first MMO?
