By more of the same you mean like a new profession, 2 new races, 11 new zones, 3 new capital cities, 21 new instances, new quests and quest rewards for all the zones and instances, new mounts, new skills and talents for all classes?   And by new features you mean Flying Mounts, Heroic Instances, Daily Quests, Arenas, Looking for Group improvements, Socketable Items and Gems, Meeting Stone summoning etc.  Yeah, I'm really shocked Blizzard had the nerve to even call that an expansion.

I am talking about WOTLK not the burning crusade which added a lot that was new, that I did not have a problem paying for which no point have I said I had a problem paying for that particular expansion, which btw rehashed a lot of textures and models from vanilla WoW as well.

WOTLK however is adding barely anything worth paying for, they have 1 new proffestion, they have 10-11 new zones which by their own admittence will be very similar to previous zones they are using the same textures, they are using the same recoloured armour models, they have already said they plan to make the differnce in armour be the colour and nothing else. And so on, seriously people must be blind if they do not see this.

Most likely the Death knight class will be overpowered it makes sense because they want you to buy the expansion, so having a new over powered class would be a good incentive for a lot of people to buy it.

Of course because simply adding a brand new class with a brand new combat mechanism alone wouldn't be nearly enough for people to want to buy it.  Only by tricking it up and making it overpowered would anyone want to play.

Blizzard will make the death knights over powered, because like the burning crusade they want you to buy the expansion. It is a business decision they purposely make it so that those that want to progress need to buy the exansion. I bet you some of the encounters in the very first instances will be designed around having a death knight in your group. Blizzard allways do this with their games, and so do other mmos. It is a safe bet to think they will do the same with this expansion.

Besides that point, it is Blizzard they have not exactly done the best of job with class balance, it is also safe to bet even if it is not intentional that they will make death knights overpowered since it is an entirely new class to balance into the game.

I would buy the expansion if they done something like added a new way of leveling, or remade all of the old zones like they did dustwallow marsh, or even remake azeroth so flying mounts can be used. It just does not look like they are adding enough to justify a 30 pound price tag especially when they make 1 billion dollars a year in profits off of WoW alone from its subscriptions.

You mean like if they like took an instance from Azeroth, like say Naxx and retuned it so that it would be worthwhile for people to go back and revisit it?  Yeah, that would be great, why don't you do that Blizzard ;)

No I mean if they go to the leveling content and make it better for leveling like they did with dustwallow. I think what they are doing with Nax is cool, the same with the new 25 and 10 man option on raids. The burning crusade leveling was great and the new starting areas are great for leveling, the quests are much better layed out, easier to find and better itemised. What would be nice is if they did that for all the old content.

Other, less profitable mmo companies like for instance Turbine release expansion size updates for free every 3 months, I believe CCP does the same every 6 months.

This has already been debunked here: http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/post/1930057#1930057

Lordo f the rings online has been out for less than a year and almost has as much content as WoW which has been out for almost 4 years. The team at Turbine is SMALLER, there content is always different from what I have seen. And no I do not play the game any more, but I can see that they constantly add something for free that is completly different from the last patch.

CCP over hauled their entire game for FREE, are you honestly going to tell me that compares to Blizzard copy and pasting old content, sticking a new colour scheme on it, along with adding content they had in beta that was not ready so they delayed it to release or got rid of it completly.

Daily quests, and new instances are the same thing over and over again. You can not possibly sit there and tell me or anyone else that turning the quest to repeatable, is really so much hard work? all the quests are kill X of Y they probably took the programmers 5 minutes to code. And the artists as long as it took to recolour old items/models.

If they can do that in 3/6 months why does it take 2 years almost to copy and paste all of the old content and change its colour, and text for quests which is what that preview sounds like.

Blizzard has added just as much if not more in it's free updates as any of it's competitors.  If you disagree, then please state your case rather than stating it like it's a forgone conclusion which it most certainly is not.  You've haven't backed up a thing you have said with any facts.  None.  Please supply at least some shread of evidence to support any of your claims.

You have not backed up anything you say with facts quite frankly. And I do not need to state it, anyone that has played this game since launch can see they copy and paste alot of the content over and over again. And while they may add more rehashed content then anyone else, they have added barely anything to the game that is really that new, or has not been done before in some form in game.
You listed dailys as something new, they are normal quests with repeat turned on, and yes there is a repeat option you can do on private servers which are the same as the normal ones, a lot of the quests are repeatable. As I said earlier instances get a lot of rehashed content added to it, like for instance the textures which are the same all the time. For every new mob they add to the expansion theres atleast 10 that have been in the old content. I can understand this to a point, but it still gets boring after awhile to always see such familiar content.
They have said already that in North rend you will see a lot of previous mobs from the game, as well as these new mobs that apart from the viking type characters and the walrus things look like recoloured mobs from vanilla WoW.

I don't get why people keep defending Blizzard so much. They steal other peoples ideas, they rehash content non stop, they make more money than any other company out there but the game never seems to benifit from that. Just look at all the free to play games that look EXACTLY like WoW. It is almost 4 years since this game came out, and we have had what?

1 new battleground, 1 new arena systems with lots of very small bland maps, countless instances that look far to familiar, 1 new race that looks like a recolored night elf, the dranai are the only really new race in the expansion, 2 new starting areas that whislt great it is a shame that they did not atleast redo some of the old contents itemisation to bring it line with the rest of the game.

They have also adding 6 or so world PvP objectives that were badly thought out and apart from Halaa never get used. The arena system is currently credited as ruining PvP completly, and it is even starting to ruin PvE by having all classes balanced around arena, and the gear being much easier to get.

Alteric Valley used to be a great battle ground and they have completly butchered it. The reinforcements idea is good, but it still devolves into nothing more than a race. And on top of that the imbalances in the battleground from launch are still there.

Warsong and AB have been in since launch, and yet we never see new game types added for them like team deathmatch or something to make them more interesting. With this expansion they are adding 1 new battleground and 1 new PvP area.

I think over all unless they do something that is obviously new to the game other than remodeling bombing runs and passing it off as 'vehicle combat' lol Then there is really no reason they should charge for this expansion. They already make more money than anyone else, yet as shown they seem to give nothing back, the game seems static. We are still killing boars, wolfs, and apparently in the expansion we will be killing worgons and murlocks again ffs.

It is a good thing that there are so many new mmos comming out that look promising because Blizzard need some competition so that they actually put some effort into this game, I know they are capable of doing a 100x better but right now to them they see that millions are content with rehashed content so they do not bother trying to improve it. People really do need to either be megafanboys or blind to not see all of that.

Sorry for the wall of text and any spelling mistakes, but I am sick of seeing Blizzard getting away with rehashing so much content over and over again, then other companies have seen they get away with it, so they try the same thing.

That is why this industry is in a slump right now, and everyone seems to see it but the rabid fanboys of WoW. And it will contenue to happen unless either A) a new market leader comes along that sets new standards, and are a good role model to other businesses, or B) untill Blizzard actually put some effort into WoW because right now all the money they make seems to be going any where else but the servers and content of WoW.

And before anyone rebates with the money they make is for server costs, then explains how from subscriptions alone they have made 1 billion dollars, if they are making that much profit I doubt it really costs them anywhere near 8 pounds (15 dollars) a month to maintain their quite frankly outdated servers.

If it really is as bland of an expansion as some people think it is, then they must be allocating their resources elsewhere....World of Warcraft II anyone?

They are making another mmo but it is not warcraft related according to Blizzard and is meant to be something different from what they have done before. Besides they have over 400 employees last time I looked some teams do not even have a 1/4 of that number to make their mmos yet they still produce something different each time with out rehashing content over and over again.

I think they simply rehash content because it is easier and more importently it saves them time and money. As you can see people still mindlessly buy their expansions and games even if they just keep rehashing over and over again, so they will keep doing it as long as people keep buying it.

It is not surprising really that they do this, when they get away with stealing peoples I.Ps and Ideas since the dawn of their company. Along with having a huge rabid fanbase that will buy any thing with Blizzard attached to it. I think when a company does not need to be very creative and try hard to stay afloat then that stiffles creativity which is probably why they rehash content so much and steal other peoples ideas so much.

I think there is an interview as well from one of the previous Blizzard lead developers that basically says the same thing that the company has got to a point where they just can not innovate they just play it safe.

    • Why does no one want to publish this game?

Would you want to publish a game that has a reputation like Darkfall? At the end of the day people are not going to want to waste millions publishing a game that most people have already written off as vapourware or a failure waiting to happen.

It is to big of a risk, they have no choice but to self publish because any publisher with business sense would not risk investing in Aventurine. The most that could happen is that a small start up publisher helps them, but if they supposedly have money then they might as well do it them self.

edit: btw supposedly they are publishing themselves in just a few regions which implies they do have publishers for other regions.

      But back to the point

      When i say meaningful PVP

      i mean: You need
      FULL LOOTING , EXPERIENCE LOSS

Without this, what is stopping griefer from griefing? He fears nothing case he has nothing to loose.

And there is no way he can be punished... Why should he ever stop? You can bring 100 people looking for him. He will die few times , so what ? He gains triple from taking gank opportunities and easy kills.

       POINTLESS....

You want real PVP ? Than make it real...

All that would happen then is the griefers as you call them would make groups. PvPers are not mobs we do something called adapting.

At launch most likely there will not be as much rampant ganking in the game because people will start to care about their reputation they will form guilds and start fighting one another. Yes there will be gankers still but they will be policed by other players if you go by every FFA PvP game there is. I.e. the gankers all way end up fighting the anti gankers, which creates more PvP in the game.

Full looting would flood age of conans economy with items because it is not designed for it. Experience loss would make people leave the game because again the game is not designed for it. Age of conan is already going to be a very small niche making it smaller is not the best of ideas.

If people enjoy the PvP in age of conan then it is meaningful, having experience loss, or item gain, or any kind of gain from PvP other than the enjoyment of doing it does not make it more meaningful.

This is not a PvP game any way. For one items and levels actually make a difference in this game, and dice rolls are abundant. Theres also seperate servers for PvP and PvE, a game designed for PvP would be designed around everyone both PvErs and PvPers working together on one server type. Moreover if this game was designed for PvP then its graphics and system requirements would not be so high because PvP and high system requirements do not mix.
